Cortifoam isn't working

Mesalamine enemas worked much better for me than the steroid ones.

I don't think enemas help in every circumstance. Sorry to be negative. If the inflammation is higher up, beyond where the enema can reach, it is still helpful for the lower part but it won't stop your symptoms. I hope you start seeing results from 6mp. It sounds like things are a bit beyond the healing power of an enema. I know some here say they have achieved remission from a severe flare up wtih enemas but it's never worked for me. I've successfully stopped inflammation from getting worse by using enemas at the start of symptoms but never halted a severe flare up with them.

Have you tried combing different rectal treatments? There was someone here a few months ago who was using cortifoam & canasa at the same time in the PM and using Rowasa in the AM. I think you have to be aggressive with a stubborn flare up.

when was your last scope? If the inflammation is in the rectum and sigmoid, I would think there would be hope for controlling this with rectals but since you're not having luck, I have to wonder if it's beyond that area?

mom2girls - I have sucessfully in the past combined Canasa at night and cortisone suppositories during the day. Didn't work this time. My inflammation is confined to the rectal area. I am currently coming off a really bad flare and the cortisone did nothing at all for me. I have been on Pred for 3 weeks and 2 Canasa a day. So mesalamine works for me but it has taken a few weeks to finally stop the bleeding. I would certainly ask to try something else. I also had been in a 2 1/2 year remission before this. I started using Metamucil this week and it has made such a difference for me as I tend to go from D to C rather quickly, but I think bulking up the stool has done wonders for the rectal inflammation. I know everyone is different though.

My doc is talking 6MP and I need to educate myself on this, so would be interested to know if this helps you and what kind of side effects you may have. I sincerely hope you find some relief, as I can't imagine having 2 little ones to look after and being so sick. I really feel for all the young mothers on this forum. I did not get this disease until I was in my 50's.

Mom2girls- I've been doing the Rowasa enemas AND Canasa together nightly and I feel like between that and the Prednisone, it's been a huge difference. Maybe try a mesalamine enema with a suppository. I've also heard great things about Psyllium seed powder. Works better than Metamucil maybe? I also just ordered Slippery Elm Bark powder as that's a natural mesalamine. Might not hurt to try.

Hope today is a better day for you with more clarity, answers, and less pain.
