Starting Remicade this morning - a little nervous

So after simmering with this flare for the past two months and not responding as I should on 6mp for about 5 years, I'm taking the plunge.  The past 5 years have been a roller coaster.  So hopefully this is what I will need to feel better.  I have other AI issues so I'm hoping that this will kill two birds with one stone.

I got the go ahead from my insurance and my GI's nurse set it up.  I go in at 10am. I have GAD so of course I am doing the what if's.  I have bad reactions to so many medications, I'm afraid of having an allergic reaction.  I don't know if it's standard protocol at my hospital to automatically give Benedryl with the infusions, but I think I may ask for it, just in case.

Anyway, I'm sort of rambling at the moment.  But wish me luck guys!

sherry, it's gonna be fine!! i got my first infusion a little over a week ago and was so nervous, too. it was a breeze and maybe you'll fall asleep during it. my infusion only took a little over 2 hrs so i just watched the ellen show and the doctors.

Well, so far so good :) no reaction. I have a bit of a headache but I already had the beginning of one anyway. I'm still at the oncology unit and I should be done in about 1 1/2 hours.

That's great Sherry. I hope your UC symptoms disappear.

Are you going to stop 6mp?

I hope it works as well for you as it did for me! Think positive thoughts.

I get my infusion in a doctor's office infusion center, in a small room by myself. I ask them to turn off the overhead florescent lights because they are so bright (after the needle is in, of course!) and just leave a table lamp on. It's more relaxing. I think I would get a headache reclining with those bright lights overhead for 2-3 hours.

I'm home...it wasn't as bad as I thought. It went fairly quick. I shared the room with a breast/liver stage four cancer lady who was getting chemo - puts things in prospective for sure! She was pretty funny and chatty so the time went by quickly. I was there at 10, got the Remi mixed and hooked up to my Iv by 11 and I was out of there by 1:15. I had some *lovely* hospital food - a scrumptous chicken sandwich (<---insert sarcasm here).

Yes, my GI wants me to remain on 6mp to avoid building antibodies against Remi.

I need to call my GI tomorrow to schedule the next one, but it should be Sept. 21st. After that one, I go in at 6 weeks.

Brava! Best wishes for longterm success with Remi. It turned UC around for Judy2-- so she'll likely comment here, too. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Glad it went well Sherry. Is it normal to have the 2nd infusion so quickly after the 1st?
