Who has tried Helminith therapy? Did it work?

Jeez, why so long ago and no response from everybody.  I just started Ovamed pig whipworm.  Yes I have to take them every 2 weeks but they die off so I can see as I go.  Very very safe and you cannot even see them.  It just looks like water.  So I will let everyone know.  I have severe UC and the surgeon wants my colon

I am hoping some of the folks who have tried helminthic therapy will answer you.... we do have some long threads in the archives.

What other alternative treatments have you tried? Personally, I would be temped to try home fecal transplant therapy.....there are some good threads about that in our history, also. Our member Subdued has done very well with that, and... I believe MOMUC19 's daughter responded well to that, (just the first names that pop into my head.)

The hot thing recently has been transdermal LDN - it looks very promising, and by being a cream on rubs into one's forearms, it bypasses any absorption issues. In So. Fla has been our cheerleader, posting on great success.

Others have done well on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD).....

I'm sorry your daughter is not responding to conventional treatments, but if you search here you will find lots of good thinking about alternatives. Many of us here use a combination of meds and supplements.

Hi Dad, I'm not sure if your still checking this thread but I hope you are. I have been taking Ovamed now since March 2011 and it has been a miracle for me. Yes, it is incredibly expensive and I have exhausted all of my savings but it has been more than worth it. I was on 60mg prednisone, 10mg/kg remicade once a month, 150 mg imuran all at one time, 89lbs with a TPN for nutrition... and none of this was even touching my UC symptoms. I was basically going into the hospital every couple weeks or so just to be stabilized and I literally looked like a skeleton with a basketball head. I have received 14 units of blood since November 10' and probably spent at least 50 days in the hospital from November-March. It was the WORST nightmare of my life. Anyway, started taking Ovamed in March and I am now up to 115lbs (just 5lbs below where I am normally) , one (if even) stool per day, and I am employed and able to maintain my job, go out with friends, like I said I have my life back. I am currently ONLY taking 150/100 mg of Imuran and that is it. I plan to quit Imuran eventually but I'm still working on convincing my GI that I am actually better. I have trouble believing it sometimes myself considering how bad my symptoms were and how unresponsive I was to everything. I was maybe a month away from calling it quits and getting the surgery.... THANK GOD I didn't. No, I am not completely healed. I work really hard with my diet and as long as I stay on track I feel pretty good. I do get nauseated a lot but I think that is mostly from getting off all of the drugs especially Prednisone. Anyway, I really hope you see this and I pray that your poor daughter is doing better. Nothing worse than having this disease as a young woman- especially considering she is probably trying to start college and I can't imagine dealing with this in school. Thankfully I was graduated when this nightmare began.

Hi Ebony-  happy to help-  I recently had a set back.  My GI wanted a colonoscopy to fully check my progress and confirm that I was recovering-  HOWEVER, might I suggest that you not do this when you are better.  This procedure sent me into a flare the same day.  I had the colonoscopy in the early morning.  I went in with no blood, 1 stool per day, some nausea.  I came out and immediately started having bloody diarrhea, multiple stools, etc.  I seriously regret having agreed to my checkup.  I knew in my "gut" that it was best to leave well enough alone.... don't fix what's not broken---  I would advise all you the same.  After a 2 week stay in the hospital, I am back out, and tapering back off prednisone.  I am off Imuran since I last wrote (made me very nauseated), and because of the colonoscopy back up to Remacade every 6 weeks for now.  But either way, I have gotten out of their hands once again.  The Ovamed was killed or washed away by the procedure. I have started it again.  Here is my update, hope it helps--

I am taking Ovamed every 2-3 weeks.  I use the 2500 size.  NO you do not need a doctor.  What you do is this-  go to Ovamed.org.  It will re-direct you to Biomonde Thialand.  This is ok.  Click to go to the store, order online.  It will say Euros.  It will be billed in US dollars with an international fee of about $45 or so.  Do not expect communication.  Do not bother trying to reach them.  If you don't hear anything, send an email with the subject line saying WHAT IS MY FEDX TRACKING NO.  and they will email back.  They are suppose to do this anyway, but often do not.  I have yet to not receive my order.  If you have trouble let me know-

Next, contact Key Pharma-  they have the Butyrate enema kit.  Order 2 because it saves a ton of money, about 1/2.  It will be approx. $135.  Have your daughter use this enema (retention) AM and again at bedtime.  This will stop the bleeding at the start.  The Ovamed helps the left side.  Now you have to reach the transverse colon next.  But the Ovamed and Butyrate will get you started.  All you need is a doctor or naturalpath to call in a prescription.  Key's phone no. is 800-358-8974.

When you get this set up, let me know, I will give you some more ideas to help.  Also, starting now, NO GLUTEN, no or very very little dairy.  No salad, no raw vegetables or fruits, keep it low residual. Vegetable juicing is good (carrots, green cabbage, beet).  Hope this helps-  give your best to your daughter.
