Hello All! Im new to this message board but hope any of my info helps.
I am currently doing the fecal stool transplant. I am on my third day, tomorrow will be my fourth. My father is my donor. My specialist says it's best for the donor to be related and male.
I have seen 4 GI doctors over the last twelve years, the first who diagnosed me with Colitis. I had a colectomy three years ago to remove 80% of my colon. I am a 32 y/o woman. After my colectomy, I was told by my surgeon and doctor, that they were not sure if I had uc or crohns because I had a blockage in my colon, which only people with crohns get. I got a flare up 8 month within have my surgery and I was four months pregnant. After having my daughter I was hospitalized several times. Medications no longer work for me. I have taken everything under the sun. Remicaid, Humira, Cimzia, imuran, canasa, etc, EVERYTHING. Prednisone is the only thing that works, but everytime I start to taper, you know what happens...it comes back! I have been on prednisone since last October 2010. I was tapering off, already on 2.5 mg when bam, I was hospitalized. I was going to the bathroom about 30 times a day. That was happening for almost a year. So you can imagine how I felt. And thats with a two year old!! I managed. I was already seeing a dr in dallas who told me about the transplant, but he wanted to try vancoomycin before i did the transplant. didnt work. tried cimzia didnt work, then that made it worse and thats when I was hospitalized. I saw about 11 resident surgeons, about 5 gi drs all who said YOU NEED SURGERY. All wanted to remove the rest of my colon and get a bag. I'm a woman. an active woman at that, that not even going to the bathroom 30x a day will stop me from waking up and playing with my daughter or going out for a two mile run. So I went back to my specialist after i got out of the hospital. I was in a bad mental state. Depressed and on 40mg of prednisone once again, but this time on xanax.I just can not imagine life with a bag. He said let try the transplant. I took ten days worth of flagyll, and rifamprin (antibiotics) and stayed on a special diet, to cleanse. on the first day of no antibiotics I the a lavage. then Monday I started the enemas. They werent pretty and it wasnt easy. lol. My husband helped administer them. I have noticed a small change in my bowels. I still have 7 more days to go of them. I noticed blood on the second day just twice, and no longer see blood. I still have the urgency , but im not going 30x a day. Prednisone really doesnt work for me any more, so I'm hoping this works. Any one on here have it done? How fast did you see results? Im still waking up in the middle of the night to poop. But i dont feel that weird im going to poop my pants right now urgency. Plus, I'm actually able to hold the enema in for 3 hours or so. Thats a miracle in itself. Doing any kiind of enema prior to this would stay in for only 10 seconds!
