Hi folks, long-time viewer of the forums, first-time poster. Thanks for the excellent resource.

For about the last 2 weeks I have had blood-shot, irritated and itching red eyes, particularly at night and in the morning. I have stumbled across some vague info that links eye problems to UC. Has anyone else suffered eye problems during either flares or remissions?

I've also been suffering from some upper abdominal, lower rib pain for the same timeframe. Dull, gnawing ache that is always there but can increase in intensity particularly in the early morning. However, my bowel habits have remained the same. Has anyone suffered these symptoms during remission? Is it a sign of an approaching flare or is it a non-colon/rectum symptom of UC?

Thanks for any help, tips and advice.

Many UC suffers also suffer from Uveitis.

I personally have not had eye inflammation but I have seen members here mention dealing with eye problems.

I have never had rib pain with UC but I have seen a lot of members mention having dull aching in the abdomen. If you're in a solid remission, hopefully it is not related to UC. Always be on the look out for early symptoms of a flare. Mine usually start with gas and discomfort and are shortly followed by blood, mucous and increased frequency.

What medications are you taking? Many of us find that using enemas right when you feel a symptom of a flare can be helpful. Usually flares begin in the rectum. I use enemas and suppositories for maintenence as well.

Yes I have dull achy pains in my stomach constantly, and the WORST in the morning when i wake up. But i find that drinking a shot of aloe vera coats my stomach and allows me to fall back asleep, i think because it has to do with our acidity levels (which burn our ulcers in our intestines if there is no mucus lining).

During a flare, I usually experience blurry vision and kind of weird sensations in my eyes. I am always worried about inflammation in my eyes. During my last flare I went to an eye doctor, and he thought my eyes were just dry. Apparently dry eyes are common during flares as well. (I'm not sure if is was from the UC or the meds?) The eye doc said any inflammation would be accompanied by redness and pain. You might want to try some drops for dry eyes, but if you have redness and pain that persists, get it checked out.

I also have rosacea. I was just at the eye docotr and he told me the rosacea has gone in my eyes! Maybe its the UC. I sometimes get burning red eyes. Thought it was just from the computer. Its very mild. I was told to do several warm compresses during the week over my eyes. It tends to help.

I sometimes wake up with a sour feeling in my colon. I drink ginger tea first thing inthe morning and feel better.

Intersted in aloe vera juice as it may help with my bleeding.
What brand do you use?

I actually was diagnosed with Uveitis prior to UC. If you have Uveitis you will have more than dry irritated eyes. You eye(s) will be painful, red and sensitive to light. You eye will also feel swollen and hurt when you touch it. It will not get better during the day - it will get worse and worse. It would be worth going to a physician to get it checked out but to me it does not sound like Uveitis but it might be allergies or even a reaction to medication... I never play around with eyes though - it is important to let a doctor take a look.

I have some eye problems too. They seem to be all in the left eye. It will water more. Sometimes I get blurry vision. I also get the light insensitivity and problems when people take pictures. I also get pretty bad headaches in the temporal region. My other symptoms are sleeping problems, it is hard for me to sleep continuously throughout the night. My hands are big. I have big lips and a predominate under bite. do you have these too?
