So I did so well till 2 months ago no flare up no meds and now in my third trimester I am flaring bad. I am on 40 mg of prednisone have been since October 13th and rowasa enemas....no relief. I am wondering if I should be concerned about
pre term labor? My doctors don't seem worried but I am anemic already and just don't see how this can be good for My baby! I'm also worried about
my platelet level because I was just made aware if they are too low I can't get an epidural. Anyone that has any advice I would love to hear it cuz I'm freaking out and my gi doesn't seem worried.

I had a baby 8 months ago today and I think I was just real lucky in my pregnancy. I had a few times when I thought I was going to flare and would just up my Lialda. Other than low iron in the last trimester and him coming 16 days early I had no other issues. I hope you get better soon. I started my flare about
6 wks ago and stopped breastfeeding so I didn't pass any of the extra meds I am on to him. Plus I wasn't able to stabilize my weight and lost way to much to fast.

Kimmytx you were pretty lucky. What about
like what you ate I am having a hard time restricting my diet during pregnancy and that is usually what helps. Did you have any issues with this?

Anemia is really common in pregnancy, even in women without IBD. If you're taking your prenatal vitamins that's great. You can add iron to your diet, also, with dark leafy greens, more red meat, cooking acidic foods in cast iron pots.
I'm not sure I get the connection bwtn preterm labor and anemia. Perhaps I misread your post? I'd be more worried about
dehydration from frequent diarrhea. You don't write about
what you're experiencing with this flare. Are you having a lot of rectal bleeding?
I developed IBD during my first pg and delivered without any problems. Of course, I didn't get diagnosed until after the pregnancy - so maybe ignorance is bliss. In my 2nd pg I was lucky and went into remission IBD-wise. Flared post partum. So perhaps you'll have the luck to go into remission once pregnancy is over!
I apologize in advance for this slightly soap-boxy note at the end: you do not need an epidural to have a good birth experience. I am sure that someone with the uncomfortable experience of UC will be a star at managing labor pains and birth without the help of an epidural. Get yourself to a good birth preparation program (NOT the one your hospital offers) and make a good plan with your partner. Then you won't have to worry about
your platelets.

I probably broke every UC rule for eating. I craved spicy and sour foods. We had Mexican food all the time. This was my second pregnancy, my first was prior to my diagnosis. I put it that way because talking to m GI I actually had my firs symptoms duringthat pregnancy, but never got that bad. I just noticed bloom when i had bms but never had diarriah. During that pregnancy I had to give up my lemonade and I couldn't drink anything carbonated at all. I think every pregnancy is different. My advice is no carbonation not even sprite, make sure you only eat steamed or cooked veggies ( raw are harder to digest), and for me during this flare I found a few foods I could actually eat and not feel like gagging and ate them for an entire wk to help get through the ruffest part of my flare. I had fish and steamed veggies with lemon only for lunch and dinner. I slowly added other foods to see how I felt. I have been able to get back to farely normal eating. I am continually improving, I know that this takes time to heal. I can't take prednsone and imuran works slower so I am just hoping it is working and in a few months I will be back to my normal bms. Hopefully that's not to much info.

Ok so what is going on is I have urgency, bloody mucusy stools. I know every uc case is different and until now prednisone is what would help when I was in a flare but pregnancy has done things to me which I know is normal. I have never had this much pain and I know it's cuz she is growing a pushing all my organs up and around it's just miserable and I hate to say this but I'm ready for this pregnancy to be over with.
Oh and I don't eat vegetables never could I live on chicken and potatoes but during this pregnancy it doesn't matter what I eat nothing helps and when your pregnant it's really hard not to eat things you crave. I just need to vent about
it I guess cuz I don't think there is much to do just was curious about
other women's experience. Thanks for the advice.
