I am attempting a FT using my wife's as a donor. This will be my second attempt. The first time around, it didn't work for me. I think I tried to use too much and I couldn't retain it long enough. This time I'm being more conservative.

I've done it three times so far and have been able to retain it 2-4 hours each time. I am already seeing some improvement in my symptoms, mainly less blood and urgency and slightly better poop consistency. I intend to do 7-10 transplants. I'll keep everyone informed on my progress.

Update:

Perfectly flare free now :) Been I think 5 days now with normal stool and no blood what so ever. Looks like it takes ~3-5 days for full benefits to kick in

edit: oh also I didn't end up doing those two extra transplants like I said in my previous posts. Just the first two

I feel so bad for the people here now that post threads about being on Remicade, Prednisone, all those Rx bills... when there's this super effective and free method to get rid of a flare, and so quickly too! If only they'd give it a try... but I can understand the reluctance.

Borody's theory is that UC is likely nothing more than an underlying infection, thus causing a chronic cycle of inflammation. However, since modern science doesn't know the majority of our gut flora dna, the infective bacteria isn't able to be singled out and "killed".

If succesful, the FT will "kill" the infective bacteria AND rebalance the sick depleated gut flora.....thus, stopping the cycle of inflammation. I believe the 50% success rate depends on whether or not the transplant colonizes. If not, you'll get relief, but not long term remission.

If you can trace back a suspecting infectious cause....OR, have been on heavy broad spectrum abx, then your a good candidate for FT. The Gut Flora needs to be healthy and well balanced, if its not, you will always have issues. FT is nothing more than a massive probiotic infusion.

My 6 year old son (Jack) is 3 weeks post FT. He was diagnosed with UC and Cdiff two summers ago. He suffered every day until we did the FT. One week post FT he got strep throat and was put on abx...we feared it could effect his "new" bacteria. Knock on wood, he pulled through it and is symptom free and feeling great. We've been told to use the one month mark as a good timeline to determine long term colonization. Our fingers are crossed and we pray every day.

Sorry, keep thinking of questions every time I sit on the toilet, which you can see is often. Is there a pole for this, I didn't,t want to start a new thread with the same heading an confuse people, but a pole would be helpful

Thanks, I talked to a surgeon today and told her I was thinking of doing it myself. She said to be careful and was curious how people were doing it. She had just saw a presentation of pediatric success with mothers as donors, maybe 5 patients I think with ibd, but done through s colonoscopy. I thought her attitude was interesting, of course that puts me in a bind because I feel like I should try it. Maybe the medical community is coming around, I just wish it was soon, so I didn't have to do it myself.

I just gave this a try at home, finished the 'infusion' about an hour ago, holding it in is a challenge! But one of my worst symptoms is tenesmus anyway so I can't tell if the enema has brought this on or if it's just the standard rectal discomfort/feeling of needing to evacuate. I only did about 60ml too because I didn't want to push it, at that point I was getting urges to go so thought it best to stop (will possibly try to do more next time, if there's a next time).

If something could stop the bleeding I’d be over the moon... it’s my biggest symptom and the reason I don’t last long if I can’t stop a flare. However I don't have high hopes for this at all as I've no reason to believe that my colitis (which is indeterminate too) is due to a bacterial imbalance. I had never used antibiotics before I developed this disease, I've never had food poisoning etc, plus my colitis is so stubborn and persistent, I just can't see anything keeping me in a long term remission now and surgery is looming. But I had to give it a go to be sure. Probably a placebo effect but aside from the rectal discomfort I'm feeling quite good; sort of warm in my tummy and relaxed. A bit warm in the face too though, hopefully that's nothing.

I think the majority of people don't try FB before other medications because they lack a donor.

I am happy so many are having success - over time, I have seen mixed results. Some respond incredibly well, some have no response at all.

I would definitely try FB if I had a good donor. Hopefully it is FDA approved at some point and we can get it done safely through a doctors office.

Hi there I'm a UC sufferer since 2007 have had three flares. I'm currently on no drugs and doing FT at Borody clinic in Feb. as an FYI, I'm on the FODMAP diet which totally firmed up stool, stopped cramping, stopped urgency and gave me major relief. Prednisone, 5ASA, antibiotics none worked for remission. I did however stop bleeding 24hrs after starting smoking again. I'm not a proponent of smoking, just thinking the nicotine theory could have worked for my current remission. Plan is stop smoking when I do FT, but continue FODMAP diet after FT as its good for the bowel!

Can't wait for my FT in 5 weeks!!

Congrats to all who did home FT!! Excited for us all to avoid meds forever !
