From all the studies I have read, curcumin is the active ingredient that has the proven anti-inflammatory effects in UC. So make sure you read the label and identify that the supplement you take contains curcumin. I believe that the curcumin is the pigment in turmeric that gives it the yellow coloring, but there aren't great amounts in turmeric alone.
The good thing, at least I think, is that we don't need to absorb it like we would if we were taking it for Alzheimer's, RA, etc. as our inflammation is in the gut. By ingesting it - we'll get the curcumin to where we need it. Usually, the recommended dose I have seen for UC is 1g 2 times a day (for curcumin). I am working my way up to that now.
