My...(gasp!) 'anus' really hurts...absolutely DREADING.....

So, my anus hurts dreadfully each time I use the restroom.  I know I have inner and outer hemmoroids.  Each time I use the restroom, I can also feel old/new cuts splitting and bleeding.  While I bleed a bit each time I use the restroom, my inner hemmoroids only bleed PROFUSELY about once a week.

I need to get a sigmoidoscopy next Monday.  My doctor said the prep is 3 Fleet enemas.

My behind can barely deal with the 10+ times a day I'm going.  I think I might pass out if I have the 3 fleet enemas. 

I've tried Preparation H's wipes...burned like hell...just got the cooling gel, can't tell much of a difference.

PLEASE...I need your suggestions for a very inflamed, itchy and IRRITATED bum!!

What is a 'sitz' bath?  Also, is the other ointment you mentioned available over the counter?

I'm 33.  I have had 20+ colonoscopies over the years.  These days, what I experience daily, is what I would have before experienced only towards the end of my colonoscopy preps...a completely raw, totally inflammed, and bleeding tush!! 

I'm just SO worried.  Every time I sit on the toilet, it hurts so much!!!  After I've left the restroom, I have to sit in a peculiar position until the pain subsides...some 10-20 minutes later. 

Just super worried about inserting a fleet enema three times, without any prep the day before.  :(

 

Your GI can also prescribe a cream that has a numbing effect that also helps reduce inflammation of the hemmeroids. I have used this a few times when mine got really bad. I forget what its called exactly but I know there are several. It did what baths, and OTC creams couldn't do.

Wow you are brave to have a sig-scope done while you are experiencing such pain. I would take a pass and say "Get my hemmies better first and THEN I'll do a sig-scope." I refused a c-scope 2 years ago because my UC was in high flare and the prep would have seriously hurt me. Doctors have no idea what we go through unless we tell them.

     You have my sympathy because I have walked in your shoes and know how painful your tush feels .

     I suffered with ulcerative proctitis for twelve years before having a total colectomy with end ileo last year.  Four months prior to my operation, my GI doctor decided to do a sigmoidoscopy on me.  UGH!  When I tried getting that first Fleets Enema up there ....thought I would die!!!!!  It felt like someone shot a blow torch up there.  I was not able to take the second enema AND he had to put me out to do the sigmoidoscope.  I never in all the years that I suffered with UP had to be knocked out for a sigmoidoscope.  Turned out he was unable, even with me not conscious, to complete the test.  He was afraid of perforating the ulcers.  So, all that pain for naught.

     A month later, I took matters into my own hand, sought out a good colorectal surgeon, and had surgery.   

     You may have just bad hemorroids but I would NOT take a Fleets enema if you are suffering like that.  Call your GI and explain.

ive posted dis earlier....have a handful of daisy leaves...grind them wid some water and take da juice out of the pulp...half a cup after breakfast till u r cured...i ws cured in one day and u dnt knw hw much pain i ws in...afraid to go to da toilet n unable to even sit...plz try dis

     Seconding Nate's suggestion, my surgeon suggested I use Calmoseptine for anal discomfort too.  Even though I have no colon or rectum (perm. ileo), my surgeon did not sew the anus closed and from time to time I still get some discomfort.  I have external hemorroids but I don't have the pain you describe.

     I recently had a boil between the anus and vagina and had to take two to three sitz baths a day. 

     You can purchase a sitz bath at your local pharmacy.  Mine is manufactured by Carex and came in a blue box.  I don't use the little hose because I have nothing to hook it up to.  I just fill the little tub with hot water, put the toilet seat up and place it there and sit on it. 

In answer to why not hot water---it will hurt more. An open "cut" having hot water poured on it will hurt really bad because there is no skin to protect it.

I understand about the deductible thing and don't blame you. I would tell the doctor before the procedure so that maybe he can be a bit more gentle. Good luck.

Thank you for all of your helpful answers!!! I'm going to start my 3 enemas tomorrow morning at 6am. My mom is coming to my apartment at 8:45am to pick me up.

I KNOW I will be in tremendous pain early tomorrow morning when I start and finish my prep. I KNOW that I will probably bleed...a lot. I KNOW it will be beyond painful when I hobble into that hospital room. And I HOPE that my doctor will be gentle and have a sliver of understanding of what I and many others endure on a daily basis.

I would talk to your GI. I had similar issues and the sitz baths did not help. My GI diagnosed a fissure and prescribed me a nitroglycerin ointment which cleared it up in a few weeks.

pb4, I agree, a tub soak will suffice however I find that in that prone position on the commode opens up tender areas and allows the soothing warm to hot water to seep in. I can't quite get into this position in the tub (no I'm not overweight, 125 lbs). The sitz bath is a really good option for rectal areas.

Thank you everyone for your replies!! I had the sigmoidoscopy today. I woke up at 6am to do the first of three enemas.

When I tried to get the tip of the first enema in, I nearly screamed. I had a moment of panic thinking I wouldn't be able to do any of them. But, I knew I had to do it, so gritted my teeth and got it in. I think that was the worst part.

Fortunately, my doctor ordered me to have anesthesia for the sidmoidoscopy. I know everyone else does it without anything, but there's no way they would have been able to get a tube/camera past my anus without me screaming bloody murder! They couldn't use the sedation they use in a colonoscopy because it doesn't work for me; I'm awake and irritated the whole time.

It was, actually, rather comical this morning. I told the anesthesiologist before the procedure, that it takes a lot for me to go under. I also said I wake up very fast. As all the anesthesiologists do with me, he said he was sure the amount he would give me would be sufficient. I mentioned that I was at this same hospital 3 months prior and received anesthesia. I also said the previous anesthesiologist had to give me more. The nurse said she would get my chart. When she brought it in, the doctor gasped and said, "Wow! That was a 'healthy' dose!" He said the doctor had to give me double what they would give someone of my height and weight.

So, the anesthesiologist proceeded to fill up this ginormous syringe with the happy medicine. I watched as he slowly squirted the entire thing into my IV. After, I was still watching...as were the astonished doctor and two nurses....because I was still awake and fully alert. I asked the anesthesiologist if he could perhaps give me more, since I really didn't want to be awake. He looked flabbergasted as he once again filled another syringe. Fortunately, I went out shortly after.

The next thing I remember, I popped my head up and in a clear voice, asked if it was done. At that point, the nurse was pushing my bed out of the exam room to go to recovery. She was very astonished as was the anesthesiologist who commented to anyone who could hear, "I just literally seconds ago stopped the anesthesia!" He couldn't believe I was awake so fast. I wanted to say, "I told you!!" I didn't feel an ounce of grogginess and I was just ready to go.

Super long story, short...the three ulcers that were in my rectum are smaller the doctor said. He said to go to a surgeon for the fissure...not quite sure I want to. He also gave me a prescription for suppositories and some cream to use before a BM to numb the area.

Overall, not happy with the findings as they don't explain the pain and constant diaerrha (you'd think by now, I'd know how to spell it!!)
