Thanks for all of your responses!! Unfortunately, I HAVE to have this sigmoidoscopy on Monday. I have a very high deductible, $2500, that will start over again January 1st. Due to all of my medical problems, I met my deductible for 2011 early on, so my insurance will pay 80% of my procedure.
You all have provided me with very helpful information. I just have a couple of questions. How is a 'sitz bath' different from a regular bath? Do I have to squat for 15 minutes with only my tushy submerged in the water? If that's the case, you all must have thighs of steel, as I am quite sure I can't maintain that position for that long. Also, why only warm water? Why not hot?
Many of you mentioned fissures. What are they, why do we get them, and what are the symptoms? Also, how can our gastroenterologists diagnose them?
All I know is, I have, what feels like several cuts on my anus, that hurt like the dickens when I, either sit on the toilet or have a BM, pain me to wipe, cause blood to be on the tissue when I wipe, and they're the reason I'm so fearful of my sigmoidoscopy.
