Maybe i should keep my message short.................

Can you (has anyone)get debilitating fatigue/weakness from Ulcerative Colitis without having any other bowel related symptoms?

Yes. Mostly due to anemia.

Not sure how this will help but yes I get very very tired. To the point where I can hardly function. This is my number one complaint. I am almost symptom free and my blood work always shows that my inflammation markers are high. I take b12 and vitamin d and that doesn't help. I think our bodies are always fighting. That is why we are tired. Also, all the medication we are on. It drains us. I have been checked for ra, lupus, and lots of other things because I complain to my doctor all the time. I get the same answer it is your uc. Good luck this is a nasty thing to have.

The cause of my severe fatigue was food sensitivities/allergies. Once I identified the offending foods (via allergy test) and removed them from my diet, my energy levels increased dramatically. Not quite pre-UC levels but definitely functional.

(I had a lot of other benefits from this including the clearing up of my face and body acne and the return of my libido.)

Same thing as WIMOMOFTHREE--I've had a whole bunch of tests done (anemia, B12, vit D, thyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands, etc.) and everything is normal. GI keeps telling me that that's strange b/c people typically get their energy back after going into remission.
I've tried homeopathy, chiropractor, acupuncture, iron infusions, eating gluten-free...nothing has helped.

I have tried restricting my diet by doing SCD Diet and I didn't get my energy back. Perhaps I will try again now that I am in remission.

I have to wonder if I have some kind of candida issue that is causing the tiredness. I do crave sugars and starches.

Thanks for all youre posts.....mum exactly the same, had every test done and all come back fine. At least other people are the same, and so we may have an answer as to what is wrong. Have any of you tried steroids?

For me my extreme fatgue turned out to be a reaction to the UC medication I was on being the sulfazine even though I had been on it for a while and was ok. It must have been the build up.

I too am always tired. Hate it...especially with a 4 year old and with all the aches and pains you just feel like laying on the couch all day doing nothing.

Have you considered an Vitamin B12 shot ?

Have you been checked to see if you have sleep apnea? It is more common than people think.

Thanks for all youre help, will read up on sleep apnea. Had so many bloods done sure B12 must be normal and will ask if medication can cause it. Also has high wbc indicating inflammation. Low blood pressure when usually high.

BMs can be exhausting! i have plenty of times when i'll be going to the bathroom and all of a sudden am completely drained. if you've been having issues with going or have been going a lot, it may just be that. i always get exhausted during cleanouts for instance, not due to lack of food but due to muscle and body stress!
