Hi,

 My husband - a patient of Ulcerative Colitis, is now having another new problem. I hope someone here can guide us what this new thing is about.

 It's been almost 3 months that he has been having this problem. It happens everyday for about 2-3 times. He feels needles pinching all over his body, his body becomes so hot that he starts scratching because he feels itchy all over his body. After about 4-5 minutes, everything becomes normal again. 

We dont understand why this is happening. Did any of you ever encounter this problem? What can be causing this?? His appointment is in February so there is no chance of him going in earlier before his appointment if its not an emergency case. Please let me know asap what this is about if any of you know anything about this.

Hi, i had a neuropathic itching, which is an irritation of the nerve endings.It's deeper than regular itching. It was related to use of prednisone while I was flaring. It could also have been related to stress. I'm not sure what stopped it. I can't remember. Maybe some sort of antianxiety med.

Or maybe he's having hot flashes - something that my husband got when he was taking niacin for heart health. Is your husband taking niacin?

Could be low B12 levels. UC patients sometimes don't absorb it well. Causes fatigue as well as the symptoms you mentioned. If this is the case probably best to have B12 injections rather than relying on diet and supplements.

If it's not an allergic reaction to some food, then it might be a B vitamin.

I can't remember if it's "B-Complex 100" or "Pantothenic Acid", but one of them causes hives to appear all over my body and I begin to itch like crazy...it also caused by body temperature to rise as well. So look into one of these B vitamins and see if he's taking them and if he is, have him stop right away.

This is something I would consider to be of emergency status. I wouldn't wait until february, his nerves could be damaged if waited too long.

I'd call back your Dr and mention the symptoms he is having. February seems too far out for the symptoms you describe. Personally I'd goto the ER if I felt that poorly. good luck

Sounds like a drug reaction. Does it coincide with taking a medicine? He should see his GI doc sooner though. Itching is a symptom of a number of illnesses some of which are really serious.

Hi,

Thank you all for your replies and for reading my post. Well, my husband is currently taking Melasazine and Prednisolone 5mg each day. He's been on pred.for many months now and in..I guess Sept or Oct, he was started on Azathioprine which caused him lots of bad side effects, he couldnt tolerate it so he stopped. He thinks this itching started after taking Azathioprine. He was also sent for Nerve tests which showed that he has some mild nerve problems but the doctor didnt bother to do anything about it as he said the prob is very very mild.

 I really dont know what to do. everytime something new is on its way. Why cant the doctors just find the final cure for this terrible disease! It's sooo frustrating for the sufferers.
