An update after 3 weeks in the hospital

I haven't posted in a while, last time I did I was in the hospital, well I was there for 2 weeks, then went down to Mass General a few days later because I wasn't getting any better. All my "labs" looked good, but still had horrible pain. I've been home about a week now.

I had one doctor mention endometrosis and I had an ultrasound and it showed a cyst. I know people get cysts all the time, but they say that's an indicator of endo. I'm so sick of being in this pain!

My PCP has me on Vicodin (not enough for my liking, only takes the edge off) and Indomethacin which concerns me as it is an NSAID but he said it was okay to take from my condition.

Does anyone get SEVERE pain regardless of a flare or time of month on their left side? Ironically the cyst is on the RIGHT side.

I would be concerned about taking the Indocid. I'm sensitive to it...had 6 pound weight gain..all fluid..in one day.

You might have endo, but I can't see you having continual pain unless you just ovulated or are nearing your period.

I had endo and a right-sided ovarian cyst, but my left side was horrific when I had my period. I had slight endo throughout the pelvic area, around the outer part of the uterus, slight on the left ovary, but don't know if it was on my bowel or not.

What are your options regarding to check for endo?

When was your last c-scope?

I just spoke to my doctor's nurse about the indomethacin and they said to stop it right away. Now I'm just concerned what they will treat with because I know most GI docs don't like narcotic painkillers but I am currently living in a state of 8 pain.

Endo and cysts aren't necessarily correlated. You are talking about ovarian cysts yes? I had a huge one drained laproscopically several years ago, no sign of endo. However, ovarian cysts are a common extra manifestation in women with an IBD.

If the pain is not Uc related, you should make an appt with your GYN as soon as possible to find the reason behind your pain. GI's aren't fond of narcotic pain meds but you can't function if the pain is on the 8 scale. You need something to help control the pain such as Vicodin or Tylonel #3's. There are pain killers that do not have anti-inflammatories and are safer for Uc. The main reason they don't like you on narcotic pain meds is because it can cause constipation.
