So  my husband finally was able to get into his GI dr today (since the er dr said he had blockage) and he said well just take some miralax and that he wants to do another colonoscopy.  So the husband scheduled the procedure but the 1st available time was on 3/16/12!  2 months away!  My husband said the dr was not concerned, did not seem sympathetic or care that he went from instant diareha 20x a day to now just 2x in a matter of 3 days.  I wonder if the slow down in bms is becuase of the blockage which I know can be dangerous!  I am calling my GI dr tomorrow to try and see if they can get him in, at least my GI dr seems to care about his patients and actually will see you when you are having flares.  Anyone taking Miralax and if so why?

You're right, you definitely need a new doctor, who has some empathy, good bedside
manner, and is knowledgeable.

I hope your husband feels better soon. He definitely needs to get the blockage looked at.

Did the ER doc do any scans that showed the blockage? I'm surprised they didn't schedule a colonoscopy for him.

I would get a new doctor for sure. The first GI doctor I saw didn't "get me"... I was scared and thought I was dying and he didn't seem to care much. I am sure it was nothing out of the ordinary for him since he seems patients with this everyday but for a newbie in bad shape I just really needed more from him when it came to reassurance.
My current GI is super! He doesn't have quite the since of humor I do, but he does laugh at my expense when it is funny.. and he was great with getting me in the tests I needed to confirm my diagnosis and nail down a treatment plan.

I don't take miralax... but it claims to be gentle yet affective in helping soften things up and get them moving. I don't know how that would help a blockage though???

The er dr did see blockage and told him to go see his GI dr. His GI dr said he wanted to do a colonoscopy immediately, but his first available opening wasnt until March! He has an appointment Wednesday with my GI dr. He now is feeling very "full" and is freezing, he thinks he has a fever, so I am not sure if the bloickage is getting worse. Any ideas?

If he is running a fever, than he should go back to the ER especially if he has a blockage.

If he is blocked then I guess a liquid diet would be best. If he starts vomiting then go straight to the ER. Take his temp to see if he has fever, and if he does give him tylenol for comfort but NOT any NSAIDS like Motrin or ibuprofen.

If he goes to the ER and he is blocked. You might be able to get them to do the colonoscopy with a GI dr that's on call at the time.

You need to fire your doctor and get a new one.

Can they get him in for an abdominal CT at least? Has he started any new meds that could be changing his bowel habits. If not, the drastic decrease in BMs could be a sign of toxic megacolon, a rare but serious complication of IBD.

NO new meds, the er dr last weekend gave him colace to help hiim go since he said the blockage was just "constipation" the next day he went from 20+ bms to 2-3 still nothing solid. Today he tried some milk of magnesia (the crappy GI dr told him to take that) and now he said his stomach feels weird and when he drinks anything he has to run to the bathroom because as he says "his butt is going to explode" still nothing solid and he said he is begining to have no appetite and feels "full" no fever so that is good. He has an appt on Wed with a great GI but Im worried this blockage is getting worse and he wont make it till then but he also refuses to go to the er becuase he said he is not in pain (unless he gets the urge to go) and that he is not spending the money again for them to just send him home.

It is important to get the words right. "Blockage" and "constipation" are not the same thing. Sometimes you can be so constipated that a solid stool will sit in the colon and only diarrhea leaks by. Is that what the DR said? It seems like laxatives would clear that, but I don't know. You might be able to palpate a mass in his belly. If you do a gentle circular massage (clockwise direction) you might be able to move a mass of stool through the colon.
