There are some big ones, so here we go;

increased blood sugar for diabetics
weight gain
facial swelling
depression or mania
fatigue
mental confusion
blurred vision
abdominal pain
peptic ulcers (ulcer on the gastrointestinal tract)
infection
pain in the hips or shoulders
osteoperosis
insomnia
severe joint pain
cataracts
anxiety
black stool
stomach pain or bloating
severe swelling
dry mouth or mouth sores
Avascular Necrosis (loss of blood to the bone)
stretch marks
nervousness
acne
rash
increased appetite
hyperactivity
frequent urination
diarrhea
loss of intestinal flora (microorganisms that live in the digestive tract)

     OH don't I know that!!!  I had at least 95% of those side effects.  Prednisone is the pits, but, unfortunately, it was the only drug which helped me into remission.  Off it since surgery in 2010, but my aching bones remind me every day of what prednisone's lasting effects can be.

That's terrible, thats pretty much my question right now. I'm on 5mg and I still have joint pain in my knees, i'm wondering if this will go away (along with acne) once fully off pred... ?

oh the joys of prednisone. definitely the most pointless drug. it basically sets out for human destruction!! never going on that poison again.

It's astonishing to me that so many doctors prescribe Pred for a large variety of illnesses. One of my friends was taking it annually for a poison ivy rash she got in her garden.

I had a giant disagreement with my first GI who INSISTED that I take it. She was yelling at me in her office after I refused. (BTW, I was about 60 years old at the time.) She told me she gave it to her 12 year old son. I told her that she should be ashamed of herself.
I left and got another GI.

Doctors are supposed to "Do No Harm". I think some forget that detail.

Here are the side effects that I've noticed for myself:

weight gain
facial swelling
depression or mania
fatigue
blurred vision
abdominal pain
pain in the hips or shoulders
insomnia
severe joint pain
anxiety
stomach pain or bloating
severe swelling
dry mouth or mouth sores
stretch marks - got these near my armpits; looks like I got clawed by some animal :( very large stretch marks
nervousness
acne
rash
increased appetite
hyperactivity
frequent urination
diarrhea

Thanks for posting these BTW! I didn't even know that some of these were even related to Pred!

I've taken Pred 40mg only once, for 4 months. Other than possibly extra irritability I didn't have any side effects. Helped get rid of my terrible flare rather quickly. Just wish it could be stopped cold turkey instead of having to slowly taper for 2+ months

Same goes for meslamines, I dont understand how I could even diagnose myself of having side effects like: diarrhea, ab. pain, etc... I mean you would notice 15-20mins after absorption right?

I'm on 5mg right now I'm feeling uneasy because I have joint pain inside my knees... :( Hope it goes away with the acne after i'm off. Ugh.
