Is Colazal (or its equiv) available in the EU (Germany/Austria)?

...and by equivalent, I don't mean 5 ASA in general. I'm talking the exact same formulation as Colazal, but under a different name.

I was thinking if the Salofalk I'm on now doesn't cut it, maybe to try Colazal. I was on it back in 2005, but I don't recall whether it worked or not or even whether or not I was in a flare...

I'm not sure about Germany (know that it is not available in Poland). It seems as it could be in Germany though (from the fast Google search). Maybe find some german based manufacturers and ask, via e-mail on their internet site.
Or if you know German, find maybe some UC related forum in German, and ask there. Usually on this kind of forums, you can find some people with pharmaceutical background willing to help.

Maybe somebody else will have more detailed info for you. Sorry, couldn't help more

     You must mean Balsalizide?  I'm not sure of the correct spelling but I took it for ten years.  It never kept me in a long term remission.  It's a shame we can't exchange these drugs amongst ourselves in this forum.  I had a ton of that medication when I went into surgery...geez..I took nine pills a day for ten years....makes me nauseous to think how many that comes too shocked .  I had to throw them all out.  Good thing I had a good prescription plan.  I believe I paid something like $59 every three months...that's still a lot of money over the years for a drug that didn't really help.  It may have been of benefit by keeping my ulcerations confined to the rectum though.  In the twelve years I suffered, my ulcerations never traveled into the colon...weird huh?  I couldn't hold the enemas or suppositories in, my rectum was that inflamed.

Being from Germany I have to admit I've never heard of Balsalazide before. I also did a little google search and it's mentioned on the german wiki of Mesalazine but I cannot find a brand name. Sorry. But we do have Mesalazine however I believe it won't do you any good.

Are you planning a trip?

Don't know about Germany but it is called Colazide brandname in the UK. The generic name is balsalazide disodium

@Christine, I just looked up the generic name (what you wrote) and yup, that's what I mean. Shame it didn't really help you get to 100%. I was on it once and went on a 3 month trip abroad so packed two of those HUGE plastic bottles in my suitcase (bad idea I know), but then my suitcase got lost in travel (never to return, side note: Iberia is the worst airline ever) and so I lost all my medicine and went into a really bad flare that put me in the hospital. Guess that means it did SOMEthing for me.

@Andrina, I lived in Germany and have a good doc there so I could still access meds that may not be available in Austria (where I currently live).

@AZYooper, thank you. I'll do some googling and see what I can come up with. Plus, even giving my doc the details you gave me will help with tracking this down.

Its available as Colazid in Sweden.

Thanks deltaforce. I looked up the UK name earlier and it seems that should be available where I'm at.
