Rowasa, the Hemmoroids, there IS a connection!

lol- sorry for the Dune ref there. Got to keep a sense of humor with this stuff.

I have had internal Hems for 20 yrs now off and on and diagnosed UC for 10, but its taken me until now to realize that my Rowasa enema's, if I don't/can't taper off within a couple months actually CAUSE the Hemmoroids- or at least make them worse. I finally tapered off (although I was still streaky bright red on bM) and within a couple days my Hems were gone. Sadly about a week later I am getting that lovely red mucus stuff- so my UC is mild flaring. So I took the Rowasa enema and now I have bleeding drop of blood with my BM and streaks on the BM. Bummer. I feel like I have to choose which problem to treat!
Also- does anyone find sitz baths help with internal Hemmoroids? with or without Epson salts?

Actually one of the side effects of Rowasa enemas (mesalamine) is hemmorhoids as listed on the meds. I just noticed when I went off the rowasa they went away. Though perhaps, Max89, you are right and it is the insertion that aggravates them. But then a lub tip is a lot less irritating than slightly dry BM.
