Abscess vs lymph node?

that's literally what my requestion says .
went to hospital about a hard lump I found In the soft tissue In my lower butt
its just uncomfortable but now I am obviously worried.
I've had colitis for 4 years now and have been on remicade for
The past year .
if anyone has any advice comments or stories would love to hear :)

If it doesn't hurt really, really badly, I doubt it's an abscess. Abscesses are extremely painful.

When you went to the hospital, what did they tell you that it could possibly be?

If it's kinda like a huge painful pimple, it could be a staph infection boil.

they said abscess or lymph node? having an ultrasound done now and will get results and let y'all know on here.
It's not painfull unless I apply pressure kind of feels like a lymph node but what do I know so well see

so update at the moment I am being told I have a cyst like formation in my butt :/ lol I don't mean to laugh but after you've had a sonogram:ultrasound done in your butt iunno what else to do lol

Who gave you the results? The ultrasound tech or a doctor?

I'd lean toward an abscess, sometimes they might not be as painful until they get to a certain size.

I'm happy you've had the proper testing....hope the surgeon can deal with it quickly and that it's not the start of a fistula. Just saying that's always a possibility when abscesses are around that area and possibly connected to IBD.

Actually, quincy, even people w/o IBD get fistulas due to perianal abscesses...the rate is around 50%.

I just had two abscesses drained in January and it was not fun at all....now I did not think it could be much worse, it was literally a pain in my ass and I must have had about 20 different people checking it out at various times.....however my friend just got over an abscess in her throat and she was swallowing all that gross stuff inside.....after talking to her I decided that was way worse! (trying to help you feel a bit better).

Any questions at all let me know, it is a long drawn out process over a couple of weeks. At least I got some percs ; )

fruitgirl..yes..true...but we're on a UC forum, that's why I say I lean more toward the abscess than one swollen lymph node. With an abscess can come fistula....best to deal with the abscess before the other possibility.

I know many can get abscesses and fistulas who don't have IBD for many reasons.

The timing is good to deal with it early..regardless, and to get it checked out.

wow thanks for the replies guys. I am home now. The surgeon said its an early abscess and prescribed some antibiotics to take in hopes it goes away if possible I am not sure. If not I am told to go back and they will deal with it.
I got prescribed flagyl and cipiro. I normally take probiotics after one time I went on an antibiotic and it sent me in a flare up. So hoping for the best.

I hope it goes away. Abcesses are very painful. I hope the antibiotics don't upset anything.

thank you I regularly take probiotics so I hope it goes well. I once had a tooth abscess I am sure it's different but it was painful none the less so so again I am hoping for the best
