Just started to take Lialda, where can I buy it cheap, this is really expensive!!

I was diagnosed with UC 2 years ago I'm 23 now, I've been to the hospital 3 times once 2 years ago, next in november and last one in january. The 3 of them I was loosing blood with a 4 point hemoglobine. I didn't even noticed.

I decided to change a bit my life eating super extra healthy every day, everything boiled, plus I changed my medication from Sulfazalazine to Lialda, this last time I went to the hospital I had a colonoscopi performed and it revealed 2/3 of my colon were with colitis, since november I've been bleeding and it stopped 3 days ago. I'm taking LIALDA and Steroids 60 mg for now, gradually.

I got a bunch of medication from my doctor, I just went to target to check out prices for what I think is making me feel much better and a month supply (120 4 a day) cost $653 a month, something I can't afford.

Please I know there is people here that know where to get medication cheaper, or suggest me something I can do.

Based on your post I take it you don't have insurance? I am not sure how it works if that's the case, but I got a pharmacy card from Lialda where I only pay $10 for each refill vs. the $40 I paid for it with my insurance. They probably have the info on their website.

If you go to the top of the thread page and look for UC resources, you'll find a thread about the many different places that can help you get a reduced amount on the cost of your meds. Get the Lialda discount card https://www.activatepharmacycard.com/newpage2/Landing.aspx , Costco seems to be the cheapest... But it's still a few hundred. Ask your doctor for 1/2 samples and half in prescription and then use the card... it should help.

Lialda has patience assistance program. If you're low income and whatnot you will get them for free. Usually takes 3-4 weeks before you actually have the meds in your hands after you send out the forms though.

Otherwise I would strongly suggest switching to generic Colazal, although it has been argued to be only effective if you have left sided UC. Generic CZ is relatively cheap when it comes to UC meds

Seconding GidHike, why not switch to Balsalazide, its relatively cheaper, abt $200 a month (for generic), No harm in asking your GI for a thought.

There was recently a thread for using Canadian Pharmacies, maybe a few pages back.

It was fairly active so there is plenty of info, I have a few personal friends also that use canadian regularly.

When I checked them out for my Lialda, they were just a bit more than I would be paying along with my med insurance.

I have insurance...cigna high deductible and for 60 1.2 FM lialda its 458.00.. The discount card from shire takes off 120.... Its ridiculous..... But sleeping pills are 10 bucks.. Go figure....

I'm trying costco.. They seem to have the lowest rates.... My doc is giving me 30 samples and a script for 30... I'll see how that pans out tomorrow.

I too do not have insurance, but was accepted into a program from Shire Pharmaceuticals. Here is the website:

You fill out the application and send in a copy of your tax returns. You can get reduced or even free meds depending on your situation. Their customer service people are wonderful and very caring. If it weren't for this program, I don't know how I would ever afford my meds!

Good info...i will give it a try...i got 30 tabs at Costco today for 60 bucks with the shire discount cars and my cigna high deductible plan.. Funny cause 60 tabs costs 240... So they said to just refill it every two weeks.. I an down to 120 a month. Thanks
