Hey, this is my first post. I haven't spoken with anyone else who has Ulcerative Colitis so I thought I'd join the forum to learn more about my peers.

These are some concerns I have about myself...

I'm in remission right now and taking 12 asacol pills a day. I've been in remission since September and lately I've been feeling really bloated, and having the urge to use the bathroom really badly. But when I finally go to use the restroom, I unleash tremendous amounts of gas, there's very like flakes of stool in the toilet bowl, and occasionally droplets of blood that are shaped like the hexagonal cells on a honey comb.

It's weird, and I don't know what this means.

And also, is it because of the asacol or Ulcerativ Colitis that I'm always feeling tired? I feel like I can sleep all day if I wanted to. I'm sleepy all day, and it's such a terrible feeling. I used to be filled with energy and refused to go to sleep, but after exhibiting symptoms of UC last february and being diagnosed in august, I've just been so tired.

And does anyone else experience times when they're incredibly thirsty. Like, no matter how much water you drink, the thirst never goes away?

In addition, I think my ulcerative colitis is relatively mild at the moment. I've tested myself a lot, and I can eat anything. I have eaten the spiciest Thai food just to see what would happen, and nothing. But I know I won't be like this forever. Are there any precautions I should take with my diet to ensure my Ulcerative Colitis doesn't get too out-of-hand later on down the road?

Yes, the fatigue is horrible! I am so tired all the time. The way it was described to me is that your body is in a perpetual state of inflammation during a Uc flare. And because your body is fighting constantly, it can make you tired.

I double the recommendation of getting on an enema. The rectum is that last to heal and the most troublesome. By using an enema, it allows that area to heal because sometimes oral medications do not reach that far down.

Also, start on a probiotic if you aren't already doing so. This can help with the bloating and gas.

Do you know the extent of your Uc?

As for it getting worse in regards to food. That is not necessarily true. Uc is very unpredictable and we are all different. You may never have food symptoms. Food bothers me while flaring but in remission, I can eat pretty much what I like with no repercussions.

Hi all, I from malaysia, colonoscopy diagnosed colitis since Nov of last year, I have some noob question to ask, hope can get answer here.

After treatment by taking Mesalamine 1500mg per day, I stopped medication, maintain remission till last month, flare again, on and off diarrhea with or without blood.

Dont know how to describe, my abdomen feel cramp like expand on lower part intermittent, is it normal during flare? Already order Mesalamine & on the way coming, can it stop my abdomen pain?

I HAVE the exact same. I called my dr, and he calls them 'tic turds'. Short for diverticulitis; which i had diagnosed in one of my colonoscopies. They are 'holes' in your colon that traps 'stuff'..... Have you been diagnosed with diverticulitis?

I am very excited to join this community. I can talk freely about my issues. I will update after the testing phase and I have a diagnosis.


I am in the 'testing' phase, having my colonoscopy Friday - 2/17. Some history:
1. Grandfather, Dad's Side - colon cancer/removed colon; lived to be 87, died in 1982 of 'natural causes'.
2. Father - NEVER, NEVER went to the DR. Died of colon cancer, age 69, 1990. I am positive looking back, he had UC as well, but never diagnosed.
3. ME...constapation ALL my life. Tried everything, diet/fiber/exercise...you name it. Back and forth to the doctor several times between 20's and 40's. Finally, in 2003, age 40, 1st colonoscopy, pre cancerous polyps removed. I have had 4 colonoscopies since then 2 with pre-cancerous polyps remvoed, with the 5th last week, age 49.

What I thought was the flu for 10 days; running to the bathroom10-15 times, turned out to be more. Currently on meds for UC; but may have to update based on test results.
