how to find a good fecal transplant donor

I am desperate to do fecal transplant. My gut is just telling me it'll work and my symptoms get worse the longer I wait. What I need to know is what disqualifies somebody from being a good donor? I need specific things- medications, diseases, diet, whatever. Everyone in my household is on medications and so are all of my grandparents.


I have mentioned to my friends that I could use their help because they are all healthy and not on medicines. They act like it's a joke and it just hurts me that they don't take it more seriously.

I wish that I had my own baby or husband that I could use. It would make this so much easier.

If your friends act like it,s a joke, maybe you need to communicate it to them differently. And show them some literature.

I would imagine it depends what medication the donor is on as to whether you can use them or not. Is this something you can ask your GI or family doctor?

I think you need to take your closest friend aside and explain to them how serious your condition is and how their help could make a difference.

Another option is the Bright Medical Clinic in Oregon. I believe they have a donor bank (not 100% sure on that).

It must be very frustrating for you. Keep plugging away and I'm sure you will find someone.

The first time I heard of it, I was ... well, if not horrified, pretty near to it. The more I heard about it, the more normal it came to be. Now I am at the point where I would really think I would try it the next time I flare.

I mentioned it once to my husband (not that I wanted to do it, but that others on this board do it) and he was horrified. So what I need to do is mention it a few more times... perhaps say how it is being done more and more by people on this board but also in research settings by doctors. Continue mentioning it now and then, when I see an article about it or whatever, so that it becomes normal to him.

That's what I suggest doing with your friends. Speed up the timetable a bit since you are anxious to get going with it. But while you are researching who would be an ideal donor, you should talk about it to your friends. I would NOT start out with "Hey I want your poop and here's why" but rather "Hey I've been reading about these fascinating studies. Sounds weird but you know what, it makes sense, yada yada..." Get them used to the idea before starting in on wanting their poop.

I don't know I guess my friends at 22 would have done the same. I can't really fault them, they are lucky enough to have no idea about UC and what it entails. But your step dad does right? You mentioned in another post that he was very old fashioned and proper but if that's the case he needs to understand he needs to step up and help his kid Also because if you need a regular donor it would be better to have someone in the family instead of making arrangements with friends for poop.

Lol, my boyfriend knows that if I'm not sick I have more time and energy to spend with him. He's been a real good sport about the whole thing. Lucky me!

Ditto killcolitis - I can't imagine what I'd have initially thought if a friend told me (s)he wanted some of my poop when I was 22. Sure, FT seems to work really well in many cases, but it's still pretty gross to think about. I'm not saying I wouldn't do it, and I'm not at all saying nobody else should. But still, it involves poop, and poop is gross.
