Anyone else here have this form of dandruff? I've never had dandruff until recently and then I just noticed I have scaly patches at my hair follicles. I've been experiencing some hair loss and was attributing it to weather and/or the mesalamines, but now I'm thinking it's just this condition.
It's an inflammatory condition, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a connection.
For anyone that's had it, any ideas of what to use? Certain brands of shampoos? Wondering if a standard anti-dandruff shampoo with help with the scaly areas. Thanks!

I have something like you describe. I use Nizoral shampoo because that's what my dermatologist said to do. I definitely don't have hairloss I don't think, I have a lot of hair, it's quite large and uncontrollable - it always has been. I did lose some when I first started taking Asacol but it seems to have grown back to normal.

I also have Seborrheic dermatitis. I recently started using Apple Cider Vinegar and it has helped a lot.

I heard that tar shampoo works well for this condition. You can find this at your local pharmacy, otc.

I had horrible itchy, flakey inflamed scalp for years before my UC diagnosis. It was only on my head.
As soon as I started Lialda it all went away.
This is a bizarre disorder on many levels.

Thanks, everyone! I'll try some OTC stuff before going to the derm.
Benji--how much do you dilute the vinegar? How often do you use it? Thanks!

I use it on my face and I actually don't dilute it (although I probably should). I'll generally use it for a few days in a row if my skin is flaring up. It doesn't work as fast as steroid creams but I find over the long run the creams stop working and can irritate my skin.
