Could it be Chrone's?

Ok guys, I am really, really scared. about two weeks ago I noticed a painful swelling on my anus. It burned, itched and hurt pretty much, but since I've had problems with hemorrhoids on the very same spot for years, I thought it was just flaring up. I used some hemorrhoid cream, and after a couple of days it stopped causing problems. Then today while I was in bathroom I felt it under my finger again. No pain, no discomfort, just the swelling. I decided to take a look at it using a mirror, and saw a pea sized swelling with white top. It looks like a boil. :( Also last week my tongue peeled completely. No burning or pain, it just peeled... My flare up never got much better since I was diagnosed 5 months ago, and I am getting very anxious and depressed. It all caused an obsession about this actually being Chron's, and not UC. Is there any way I could be sure it's not? Could somebody please explain what's the difference between the abdominal pain in Chron's and UC? I only know that UC usually causes pain in the left, and Chron's causes pain in the right lower abdomen.

for the record...it's Crohn's. very easy to misspell.

I think you might misunderstand the symptoms of CD and UC....nothing is only this and only that.

You say you were diagnosed with UC...where exactly in the colon..limited to where? or throughout?


REgarding the tongue peeling...it could be med related, or it could even be toothpaste or oral allergy. Have you changed anything orally lately?

You really should get checked by your doctor regarding the hemmie to make sure it's not an abscess.

Hang tough. Your anxiety and obsession is understandable, but it's not going to change the reality of what it is that you have. You need better information of what's going on and to create optimum questions to ask your doctor so that you can get appropriate testing for your satisfaction.

I realized I misspelled Chron's just as I clicked the submit button. :) I've only had one colonoscopy five months ago, and was told by my doctor that I have a moderate case of UC, and the affected area of the colon ends aligned with my belly button. As far as I remember, he told me he checked only half of my colon, as he felt it was not necessary to go any further.

I am setting an appointment with my doc tomorrow.

I was awaken and watching while my colonoscopy's been done. It didn't look that bad at all. There were tiny red dots, not that much of them, and as the doctor progressed through the colon, there were less of them.

No offence Dach, but you don't have anything to compare to what you saw during your scope (in other words you don't have a "trained eye" to know what you should be seeing or not in a scope) your doc on the other hand should know and there's no reason he shouldn't have checked your entire colon while he was there anyways (that just seems completely ridiculous to me) especially since he (and you) did see something. I already don't like your doc....having to prep for colonoscopies (as you well know) is not fun and when a patient has to go that extream for a colonoscopy I expect the dang doctor to follow all the way through and do a proper job.

I think you need to have a full colonoscopy done and an endoscopy. Is "erosive colitis" the same as "ulcerative colitis"? There are several different types of colitis and UC is just one. I would have the bump checked and ask for further testing. Good luck, hopefully it's nothing.

uh...no....erosive colitis is NOT the same as UC. UC isn't diagnosed as a for sure with biopsies. There would be a "consistent with " or something like that.

Erosive colitis would mean erosion of the lining n the colon caused by inflammation...what exactly caused it would have to be determined.

The biopsies don't state where they're from within the colon.

The collagen bundles could mean collagenous colitis.

The only way you can tell for sure whether you have Chron's or colitis is to go back to the doctor and ask about it or to have some more procedures...but you really shouldn't worry about whether it is Chron's or colitis right now until you have the right answer from the doctor. My friend with Chron's was wrongly diagnosed with UC for ten years, so just tell your doctor that you want to make sure it isn't Chrons and that you have some questions.   I have UC, but I myself have wondered whether it might be Chron's or not because I have had pains pretty much everywhere in my abdomen, although most pain is on the left...so I would think that pain everywhere can just happen sometimes. 

I have no idea about the tongue thing...sorry I can't help you with that one.

The boil, or bump, you might want to get checked out if it gets any worse.  It is probably just an inflammed or infected hemmoroid or something similar, but I would put some antibacterial/antibiotic cream on it if it looks like it has a white head because that could be a boil or even MRSA.  One bad thing about this disease is that you have to start using A LOT of public toilets, which can be covered in MRSA-related germs...so make sure you double up on the toilet paper on the seat. 

colitis....inflammation of the colon. Not a term used interchangably for Ulcerative Colitis...for clarity purposes. colitis doesn't mean UC\

Dach...ask the doctor where exactly the inflammation is in the colon...meaning FROM where TO where.

Ask why you didn't have a complete colonoscopy. One needs to know what's going on from rectum to cecum.

Ask the doctor why the term erosive colitis was used and what are all the possible things it could mean.

Ask what testing the doctor is doing to find out regarding a diagnosis.

Have you had stool samples done?
Have you been tested for other possibilities?

Is the inflammation continual or not?

Could you have ischemic colitis?
