anyone have mouth ulcers

Hi I have had red scaly rashes on my arms and legs for about 3 weeks now. My primary dr just said to put cortosone cream on it to stop the itching, but now I have a big blister in my mouth. Is this related to my UC.

I already have an appointment with my GI next wednesday, but I think I will call him tomorrow to see what he has to say. I am doing just fine tummy wise ( knock on wood). Does anyone else get these sores in their mouth and what causes them?

Thanks for any advice.

Could be extraintestinal manifections related to UC.

The scaly rash could be eczema, allergy, dermatitis caused by bacteria/fungus, or autoimmune.

Best to get your skin and mouth checked out with your GI and possibly get referred to a dermatologist if the rash doesn't improve from the cortisone.

Where exactly is the blister in your mouth? and is it clear/whitish or is it dark like a blood blister?


I get apthous ulcers on my gums and side of my tongue, but I have had on 2 occasions, a single ulcer on the top of my tongue. Very painful and took a long while to heal compared to the ones on my gums. I can't say if it's related to having UC...or just having autoimmune issues. I also have geographic tongue, but that's not related to having UC.

Hope you get an answer.

In the meantime, you might consider to use the Orajel Mouth Sore medicine. It contains zinc which helps heal and ease some of the pain.

We use manuka honey on those and they do disappear pretty quickly.

Yeah I get them really bad on my tongue, gums, side and roof of my mouth and the back of my mouth/top of my throat. I generally have about 3/4 weeks when they're really bad, then a couple of weeks where they're OK, then they're back in force again. I've tried EVERYTHING - unfortunately the only thing that's got rid of them so far is Pred, which is obviously a very short term solution! You can get a tube of anaesthetic gel from the pharmacists (made for toothache) which helps in the short term when you need to eat a meal etc.

I also get red blotchy/itchy skin on hands, knees and eyelids. It's all UC.

Yeah, mouth/throat/tongue ulcers really suck, I had a bad case of them recently. I tried lidocaine, the gel like stuff that you rinse that is supposed to numb the mouth, but I hate that stuff almost as much as I hate pred. You could try getting Cepacol cough drops, they have a numbing medicine in them that does help a bit. I ended up on pred for a short burst(5 days) and thankfully that got rid of them.

There are some skin issues associated with UC, I think they are more ulcer like, but you should check in with your GI before all of it gets out of hand.

When I had my mouth sores really bad and some skin issues, my GI tract was totally fine too. I know some people with Crohns say they get mouth sores before a flare, hopefully that won't happen to you.

I also got ulcers on my tongue with UC. They were very painful - they usually started as a small dot (seemed like a swollen taste bud) but then quickly swelled up... sometimes to the size of a penny... and they were whitish with an indented center. I'm hoping I won't get them again, as I haven't had one in the two weeks since surgery.

I asked my doc to give me something for the ulcers I get in my mOuth and he prescribed me an orabase paste for use on wet areas.eg mouth, or open sores . I hate it, only use it when they are really bad. The worst spot for ulcers for me is the Sides of mouth just at the back :(

I have had mouth ulcers numbers of times? It doesn't mean hey you got this or something is wrong. I haven't had one in a long time but use to get them a lot when when i was a kid.... Im guessing mine were from oranges or candy example Orange juice Skittles sweet tarts ect ..

My dentist gave me a paste long ago it was like "sandy feeling" it covered the sore for it to heal and keep it from being so painful... white sore and red and looked like a ulcer and hurts like hell...

if i drink orange juice too much or anything orange or with a tangy il get them painful taste buds witch hurt like heck :X including lemons and ya..
