I had a scope 2/24 and I am not doing so well now from stress, my regular GI doctor is out on maternity leave and the doctor covering her is trying to say they want another scope! I'm saying no, I had a scope 3 weeks ago, it seems way too close to me, not to mention too expensive. Any opinions?

Seems strange to me unless you only had a sigmoidoscopy before and she wants to do a full scope. I still would veto it that soon after the first scope.

No way. Ask the new doc what they would be looking for/expect to see that wasn't evident on the first scope. Some docs just like to "take a look" and it's absolutely unnecessary.

What were the results of your c-scope biopsies?

What meds are you on?

What exactly are your symptoms?

Treatment doesn't only rely on the visual...unless you're having diarrea, different symptoms and stool samples can be done as well as blood tests to help determine if something else is going on as well.

No way, especially if you've already had a full colonoscopy. I think some Dr's are too scope happy... I would not do it.

do you go to allegheny general by any chance? my doctors prefer to do at least 5 scopes a year. it's totally ridiculous. their reasoning "you don't want to develop cancer now, do you? colon cancer will kill you." after i had 3 last year, i told them they were out of their mind when they asked me to have another one all in the same year.

it's definitely not necessary to get another one since you literally just had one. can't the GI look at your last results?

I just typed this all out and accidently hit back. grrr.

My last scope showed that I have inflamation and sereve ulceration in 15-30cm, and mild ulceration in the 30-40 and 5-10 area. The letter they sent me said the biopsies showed inflamation (clearly) and none showed signs of pre-cancer.

I was getting Remicade 10mg every 8 weeks and we decided to change it to every 6 weeks but I have yet to have it at the 6 week mark. Besides that I take Vit D, Align and Iron.

What finally made me go to the ER was basically just the amount of pain I was in, normally my pain comes and goes but I was in instense pain Sunday night and Monday. I've been going to the bathroom more frequently which basically I just suck up and deal with, no blood and not any severe urgency. They did a CT scan to make sure I didn't have any perferations I guess because of the pain.

I go to Beth Israel in Boston. I'm feeling like they needed to have a better plan for when a doctor goes out. It seems no one knows what is going on, before she left she sent an email about me to the doctor on call, but when a different doctor called me today it seemed he had no clue. They tried to make me go to the ER up there ( I live 2 hours away and my doctor before she went out to have her baby told me it was just fine to go to my local hospital and she would tell the doctor on call what tests she wanted run on me when my ER doc called them (which they did). I told the doctor today that I was not going to sit in another ER, and that if they were missing tests they needed to ask my local PCP to order them considering he was talking about a different blood test and stool sample. I told them that I am well aware that my symptoms are coming from the massive amount of stress I am under ( and trying to control) and he seemed to write it off as if that had nothing to do with it, but the part that makes me even more angry is he kept getting off the phone with me to consult with the doctor that is higher up then him, I wish the better doctor wouldve just called me and settled it up with me.

Hmm, sounds totally wonky to me. Have you ever been on any 5ASA meds such as Asacol oral or rectal enemas?

I started out on lialda but I was so sick the I and it wasn't working fast enough they basically skipped to the top, that was my last GI. I've never done rectal meds. When I was on the phone today they mentioned wanting to add 6MP, I don't really like the idea of that either bur im starting to wonder if I really have an option. I have never really been in remison, I've just had better times and not so goodtimes.

My very first GI was scope-happy, I remember having scopes at least 3 times within 4 months and that was definitely scope overload....then he wanted to scope me near the end of my second pregnancy (I got sick about 1.5 yrs after my first baby) and my colon rectum surgeon suggested I not go through with it since it could induce labor....that's when I dropped that GI and my colon and rectum surgeon found me another GI (but I've since had 2 more before I finally found a really good one).

My last GI seemed a little scope happy as well, I also always woke up in pain before they shoved more drugs in me to pass out. Also, during my last prep, I threw up half of the stuff because my stomach just couldn't handle it, I had to down for 5 minutes before projectile vomitting lemon-lime citrate magnesim. After this I discovered they have CLEAR cherry, which I think might be easier to take, but I'm not rushing in to do another prep. I wish that everytime they insisted I have a scope they would go through the same prep, last time I didnt eat for 42 hours..lets talk about how difficult that is.
