Yeah, cdiff will complicate everything. You first need to treat that with Flagyl....if you relapse they will try Vancomycin. If you relapse again, you will want to look at Fecal transplant for sure. It is almost 100% against refractory cdiff. Once that mess is behind you, you can then focus on your UC. IF you still have symptoms after that, sounds like you should consider a biologic (remicade).....it is the route and protocol for UCers who don't respond to steroids.
Also, as your trying to clear the cdiff, just remember, this infection is notorious for producing false negative test results as the infection clears (and test), but the spore cycle returns with another cdiff infection. The symptoms for cdiff are very similar to UC, but the distiguishing differences are the smell and consistancy of the stool. The smell will be like a "barnyard" smell....very strong and overpowering. The consistancy will be very mucousy with the color being a bit greenish.
If you want to put up a fight to keep your colon, I would follow these steps first. Any GI that doesnt' suggest this route for your situation is irresponsible.
Take care and good luck.
