I feel guilty staying home sick when it is just UC symptoms like I'm having pretty bad today and this past weekend. Is it sometimes better to stay home and relax rather than to work and be stressed all day (if you have sick days)?

For me, it depends. With my last flare, I couldn't even bend down the back pain was so bad. I stayed out of work for a week.
If you have sick days and feel you don't want to get more stressed out, stay home and relax.

It stressed me more to miss work sometimes, so do what you need to. That's what sick days and vacation days (at least for me ; ) are for.

...then you run out of sick/vacation days and have to go in. That's what happened to me and it's not pretty. I stay home when I'm having a bad flair. Other days I go in and pray alot. Thank God I work at a job where there are alot of bathrooms.

I try to go to work even if the mornings are a bit rough.. but I have a rule, if I have to go to the bathroom more than 3 times in the hour I need to get ready for work.. it's a no go. I work about
45 minutes from home and the last time I tried to go anyway I had to stop 5 times on the way to work and ran to the bathroom every 20 minutes until I gave up and went home. Stopping again 5 times on to get home. So, my rule, 3 times in the first hour and it is going to be one of those days. Luckily, my supervisor understands this mess and sees the efforts I put in even when I am not 100% so she doesn't make me feel guilty for needing a day here or there...
You have to accept the limitations and not feel bad for them. We still go to work even though it sucks a lot of the time with UC...
Enjoy your day as best you can!

Luckily I work from home doing transcript
ion and editing, but sometimes even that is hard because I have to start and stop a lot and it will sometimes mess up my transcript
ion because I lose my spot/rhythm so it will take a lot longer to do. I am currently in the hospital so I'm not working, but plan to work as soon as I am home. However last time I was released from the hospital (in December of 2011 and January 2012) I didn't go back until 3 weeks after being home because I was so sick and couldn't focus at all.

Even as a "recovering Catholic", I still feel a sense of "guilt" when I call in sick...like I should be on my deathbed before I take a sick day. However, as a retiree and now school bus driver, whose main job is to cover for drivers who are out, I never know which run I'll be doing or how long I might have to be behind the wheel before I can get a break. This makes for some touch and go mornings, believe me. If I know I just can't make it through the morning, I will call in. If I'm not sure, I'll go in and take my chances. So far, knock on wood (my head), I have had no major "accidents" behind the wheel. So far this year, I've only been out 8 days, which I feel is very good considering my condition. When to take off? I have to listen to that little voice inside that really knows how I am doing that day.
