I changed GI's when my ex-GI yelled at me, and then yelled at my son, after making us wait nearly 2 hours! I am now seeing a new GI, who is a professor of gastro, and who leads med studies for UC and crohns.
I have now seen him twice, and today he has decided to start me on a drug trial for Anti-IP-10
clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01294410?term=UC+AUSTRALIA&rank=5 ,
because I have failed on imuran and 6MP - as I meet the criteria. He has said that if I get the drug, I will hopefully see an improvement within 12 weeks, if I get the placebo for the first 12 weeks, I will be moved to the
open label drug after that.
So, either in about
12 or 24 weeks, I should be feeling (hopefully) a whole lot better, as the other choice was starting on a gout drug, which would take up to 12 months to work. Now, there is just another colonoscopy, bloods, chest xrays, tb test - then it should be all systems GO! Every 2 weeks I have to get an infusion, which (in mummy speak) means I get about
5 hours to myself a fortnight! ALONE!!
So, as I said, lets hope its not an oncoming train!
