I got some help, no remission, but a lot less urgency and soreness. Also seemed to work best for the 1st week or two, then it is as if my body pushed back and the benefit dropped a bit.
Recently, because I am trying to get off Pred after 15 months, I became concerned about systemic absorption. It can be like an extra 10mg of Pred, which can play hell with a slow taper - especially if you aren't using them every night. Randomly going up/don by 10mg a couple times a weeks is a problem when you are trying to drop down the oral dose by 2.5mg over a few weeks. I was getting days that felt achy, flu'ish.
So I am trying to use them less. Also, I mix/alternate the hydrocortisone with generic Rowasa. The Rowasa does seem to cause some bleeding, and I think this may be the sulfate used in the generic. I might do a trial of the sulfate-free name brand Rowasa, but the cost is hundreds more.
Anyway, these issues, as well as resistance by some docs is covered in this Q&A that was published in 2010 in a Gastroenterology journal: Check it out, maybe give it to your doc.
