It's the second day of intestinal cramping and the pain is rediculous. I lay on my side as it starts on the top right of my colon and seems to make a draining gurgling sound then the pain passes I have some tramadol which I have taken to ease it somewhat and I keep as upright as possible or lay flat on my stomach. Does anybody have any suggestions or ideas to slow its frequency or calm it away altogether?

Sorry to hear you are in such pain.

I remember having 2 ties that horrible cramping. Felt like contracting to give birth and the only way that seems to calm it down is yelling and laying down flat on my stomach in the bathroom because the tiling was cold.

I went to the doctor and though he didnt thought it was heartburn or acid reflux he gave me Omeprazole wich is efficient for thoses. He said that surely give it a try for the cramps.
It worked wonder within a day. I went from cramps every 15 minutes to maybe 4-5 cramps a day.

I don't know much about tramadol but i readi ton wiki andit seems its more for muscles or bone pains. But then again i don't know if it worked for you before.

I always used omeprazole for extreme cramping and some users here did as well and it seems to have great results.

If you can go to your doctor as soon as possible because ive done extreme cramping cold turkey once for 2 weeks and its NOT fun. Get good meds as soon as possible so it can kick off and put you in a better position .

Once your flare settles down, the cramping will ease. But in the meantime, I am not sure if you can get it where you are but Bentyl (dicyclomine) or Levsin (hyoscyamine) is an anti-spasm pill that is like a valium for the gut. It will help settle it down. Also a heating pad can help or a warm bath.

You can also try a low residue diet for a few days to give your colon a rest. With a low residue diet, your colon doesn't have to work as hard.

I don't know but I use mag tab sr magnesium supplements. They are a 12 hour form and work great on calming everything. I get them from my primary doc, she is also practices integrative medicine.

Heat is the only thing that really works for me. I use a heating pad, and will even get those sticky self heating pads for when I need to go places.

I also use bentyl, but I don't find that it relieves the pain. It seems to slow down the movement and noises though.

I second the heating pad idea!  I used to have very painful abdominal cramping at bedtime.  I would put a heating pad on my stomach and a pillow over that. Mary

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll get hold of a heating pad or hot water bottle and see how that works out. By my own mad logic i thought of putting the heat cream Tiger Balm all around the area and it actually lessened the pain somewhat. So I can recommend that to you. Also a friend of mine is going to collect some Bentyl today, which is an antispasmodic. I didn't sleep too well last night as it was still doing it's thing. Day three :S Laying on my right side help though (infront of the tv ofcourse)

ugh cramping :( mine is BAD right now too, way BAD , more blood. more trips and that means more standing and moving which is horrific right now. heating pad is on. this SUCKS.
ps why does omerprazale? work? is it acid related ?

When I have really bad cramps, I take a hot bath and use a heating pad. Be careful with using the heating pad on the highest setting. I have been using one for about 2 weeks for cramps and now my stomach has purple blotches all over it.

I also rub this cream all over my belly. It's an anti-inflammatory cream made of Boswellia.

hiya sheila. I was surprised too when the doctor gave me omeprazole. He said they usually give it to poeple with acid stomachs or heart burn but it would be effective on me as it would cool down my cramps and it helps with the spasms.
It definatly helped me. He said my symptoms were similar to heart burn and the location of the cramps too.
Last year I lived with a GP and when i was in terrible pain (once because of my hemroids) but i mean serious pain she gave me statex wich has morphine in it. I felt sooooooooo good on it. But i did it only once as it was a post surgery med and you can create a dependance to it.

TOURNEVICE thanks! I TOOK MY BOYFRIENDS omeprazole, IN BETWEEN FITS OF CRAMPING, TOOK IT AND HELD IT DOWN (SO NAUSEATED FROM PAIN) AND SURE AS S!@* IT WORKED ! I CAN MOVE , AND EATING W/O IT HURTING!!!!  BYGOLLY THANK U & DR PRESCRIBED ME SOME ANTISPASMATIC ( FOR MY STOMACH NOT MY BRAIN-LOL!!) THAT DESOLVES UNDER TONGUE BUT HAVENT GOTTEN IT FROM PHARMECY YET.  i was reading some on gastristis & it seems to fit the bill too besides any Uc effects and med sideeffects etc . thanks again

BANANAGIRL- CREAM IS ON THE LIST ! THANKS !  i was taking slipperyelm a few days saw improvment bloodwise but that when cramping started so i am scared, but with this you never know the cause or not the casue  :( eek!

So the cramping lasted around 5 days. The things that helped for me the most were Tiger Balm and just laying on my left side. I was very careful about what I ate ofcourse. Nohing that caused gas. I was able to get hold of some raw ginger which I grated some of into a cup of warm water with a little Manuka honey and this also helped. Once in the UK again in a couple of weeks I'll speak to my doctor about some omeprazole. I have had it before for stomach issues so hopefully that should be good! Thanks everyone : )
