increased liver enzymes and 6mp

I have UC in remission by the sounds of it. I've been on 6mp for well over a year and a half and now for the first time, my liver enzymes are up. The specialist said that it's not too much of a concern and that in five weeks we will check up on it and see where to go from there. This is the lowest dose that I've ever been on, on 50mg 6mp and i weigh 134 pounds, i've been at higher doses and had no trouble, now on a lower dose and am on trouble. Has anyone had similar problems and what resulted? My diet has been rich in fruits and vegetables, he said that that's not the cause. Could it be something other than the drug? Just when things were going well steadily.

are your symptoms being managed at 50 mg? if they are, that's great, but having too high of liver enzymes consistently is not good for you. at your next blood work check up, if they are still high, i'd drop down to 25 mg. i had this same problem at 50 mg but my doctor never looked at my blood work so i didn't find out until months later. i dropped down to 25 mg and my enzymes were still elevated so i stopped taking it. it wasn't worth it to me to keep damaging my liver. luckily, the liver heals pretty quickly and my enzymes are normal again.

i don't drink ever. I went on 6mp after imuran had failed for me, methotrexate worked for a while, then stopped. Symptom free for me is being able to make it to the toilet, no pain when emptying bowel, no blood, no mucous and fully formed stools, no more than three movements a day. Thats luckily been my remission. It took a whole year for any sign of improvement.

I have had elevated liver enzymes and it turned out it was jsut a fluke in my blood results. I haven't had it since. Please stay on top of it and get a recheck. It may b nothing or it may be reason to stop the medication, all you can do is wait and see and speak to your GI.
