imuran and nausea

Hey guys my dose of imuran was upped to 150mg a day.

I am 27 year old man since theY upped the dose I have had constant nausea and feeling like I am going to vomit.

Anybody has this problem before does it go away thanks for listening.

Yes, it should go away once your body adjusts to the higher dose. However, if the nausea becomes severe or you start vomiting - call your doc. If the vomiting accompanies severe pain in the upper right side, get to the ER as this is a sign of pancreatitis. But until your body gets used to it, you can try otc anti nausea meds, ginger supplements or ginger tea to help counteract the nausea.

yup, nausea and lethergy hit me at 100mg, it took 2 or 3 days to start to fade, and a week for it to go away entirely. I shifted my dose to the evenings instead of the mornings so I could sleep though some of the side effects - it countered the insomnia effect of the prednisone nicely!

Good luck - I found it totally worthwhile - 10 weeks later I was heading for remission and now - about 5 months in (where does the time go!)- I don't worry about my UC anymore.

Ooo Imuran...I was on this for 2-3 months and decided to take myself off of it. I didn't have the nasusa or anything like that..but had servere rectal throbing, servere straining, was going to the washroom like 20 times a day and sometimes couldn't even make it too the washroom and LOTS of blood. Basically couldn't leave my place, the whole time I was on Imuran. Took myself off of it and within a few days felt 100 times better.

Besides all of the insane side effects...like cancer, tumours, etc...and shutting down your immune system completely...no thanks

I find the best time to take it is at dinner time. Helps a lot with the nausea to take it on a full stomach.

Never had nausea with imuran.  I do take it at night before bedtime with or without food.

Definitely take Imuran after a big meal, this helps a lot. But some nausea is unavoidable. Mine persisted for a month or two or three.

Been on 150 of Imuran for a week now and, suddenlty, for the last 2 nights (take it at supper time) I have been puking like there in no tomorrow. I am taking myself off this stuff as this is no way to live.

Doctor will probably suggest remicade but I will suggest no.

Would like to try worm therapy but $4000.00 is a lot to gamble on a possible fix.

I seem to have alot of nausea since my Imuran dosage was increased two months ago from 200 to 250mg. I just had a prometheus test done about two weeks ago and I'm praying that when I go to my GI on May 10th that she doesn't want to increase it again. I just don't think I can take anymore. The nausea gets so bad that i do vomit  maybe twice a week. It really is a bummer to feel nauseous all the time. I carry a plastic bag around with me in my purse just incase I need to vomit when I'm driving and I have pulled off the road to do so. I really think it's time to get off this stuff. It's helping my colitis, but it's starting to make me feel sick all the time. I just wish I didn't have this dreaded disease at all. cry Humira or Remicade here I come.

I take 150mg per day too (female, 130lb). I take mine in the morning with a protein shake. Currently on pred for a recent flare, so 30mg of that too.

I have been on Imuran on and off since 2002. I am one of the extremely lucky ones who tolerate Imuran very well. I only experience nausea if I don't take it with food.

I do seem to need more sleep than others (even when in remission) and again I'm fortunate as we decided not to have kids (partly because of this darned disease: my family is riddled with it) so I'm able to go to bed at 8pm if I need to.

Never had any nausea with Imuran. I did have some nausea from UC when I was in a really bad flare and I also had it from pred. My energy level is actually up since Imuran got me out of a four year flare.

If I did have nausea I would call my doctor though - that does not seem normal. You should always call your doctor if you have adverse side effects from any medication.
