Question about Humira

Seems like this will be the next step for me but I'm worry about the side effects, it's seems to risky to me...but Asacol and azathriphrone aren't working for me anyone and according to me doctor this is the only other treatment that can help...I'm not sure what to do...Anyone on Humira experince any serious side effects?

I never tried Humira but I was on Remicade. When the Remicade didn't work for me my doc asked me if I wanted to try Humira but I chose not to and opted for surgery instead. Humira and Remicade seem to work more efficiently in Crohns's patients but many UC patients have gotten into remmision with them. Have you ever tried 6mp? Usually dr.s recommend that before the Humira or Remicade.

I do have Crohn's but I like to post here as well...and No I haven't tried 6mp..what is that?

6MP is just what azathioprine=Imuran metabolizes into- imuran was ineffective for me and my GI didnt bother suggesting 6MP as he said they are effectively the same, but I have seen a number of reportson forums by saying that one worked and one didnt and it sounds worth it before resorting to surgery. In the non toxic department one might consider LDN Seems to have helped me a lot after I failed Remicade and Humira and for now surgery is off my radar again.


Incidentally, I experienced nasty episodes of bursitis in different elbows on Imuran and Humira respectively, and joint pains on Remicade, and much, much slower recoveries from colds and sore throats. Off those drugs, I never got/get bursitis and I now can bounce bag from colds within days like a normie again.

I was on humira for around 3 months (w/ Imuran). It did not work for me but I did not have any major side effects. I was more fatigued a day or so after the shots. My hair also fell out some. Otherwise no other side effects.

I'm currently on Humira but it has neither side effects nor effects. It doesn't seem to work for me but I don't want to give up hope since Remicade was like a miracle drug to me.

I hope it will work for you.

Did Remicade stop working? Waiting to get approved for Humira too. GI gave me a choice for Remi or Humira. Which would be my better option? Need to to do one or the other. Any thoughts would be appreciatied.

Hi Faith,

I've been on remicade for 6 infusions, the last one being a double dose. However, i dont really respond to remi. The way Humira was explained to me was that it was kind of a back up to remicade. If remicade worked, and then it started to fade away quickly, or stop working completely than Humira is worth a shot. I may try Humira, however, because i did not respond to remi, its highly unlikely that Humira will work. But, i've heard stories that Humira has been great, and the same with Remi. In the end it has to be a choice that you're comfortable with, they both belong to the immunosuppressant group.

Faithmac, I had to lay Remicade off since I moved from Germany to America and had no health insurance for a while. It really helped me till the end and my GI in Germany told me that Humira is weaker than Remicade. Not sure which choice you want to make but like I said Humira doesn't work for me but Remicade did wonders for me.

Wonder why my GI suggested the Humira over the Remicade? We spoke about both. Maybe it was the convience of giving it to yourself. I'm not thrilled about giving myself shots. :(

Faithmac, that's a good point. Remicade is more expensive because you need someone to do the IV.

I don't like the shots neither but I went with the pens and that's endurable. The pain is also not bad when you take the pens out of the fridge 30 to 45 minutes before you inject them.

Andrina, Is there one place better then another to give the shot? Less painful!!!!! How long will you be giving Huumira a chance to work?

I was on Humira for a little over a year. It was definitely the most successful medication I was ever on. I was able to maintain a good remission for 6-7 months without steroids before flaring again. Prior to that I was on Remicade for a little less than a year. That worked initially but slowly lost effectiveness. I kept increasing the dose and frequency but was unable to get into remission without steroids. I definitely built antibodies to both Remicade and Humira. They might recommend combination therapy to you where you continue to take Imuran. That is supposed help prevent your body from building antibodies as quickly. I wasn't able to do that because Imuran gave me pancreatitis.

I really didn't have any side effects from Humira besides fatigue and possibly some joint pain.

Thanks for the info guys...I recently saw my GI and he upped the Azathioprine to 3 tablets a day so I'm gonna see how this works before I try the Humira..I really don't like the sound of getting injected with things...so hopefully this works
