bleeding and 6mp

For those who had bleeding as their main symptom, how long did 6mp take to work for you.  Also I'm on 50mg which is sort of low, I think 80mg is my dose per weight.  GI said he'd do that test to determine therapudic range at some point.  Saturday will be 3 weeks on it.  GI though maybe 3 months.

seasons, I did have a lot of trouble when I first started 6mp. I didn't respond to it as well as most people do. You probably won't have all of the problems I had but I would say it took a full 4 or 5 months to get me into a range where it was helping. Try not to loose faith, things will improve, it just takes time. The good thing about 6mp is that it can work for you longterm and, for many people, it can be the only medicaton they need for many years. I hope it works well for you.

6mp helped me within a few days of taking it. i immediately noticed a lessening in my symptoms. i was on a 50 mg dosage and was around 92 lbs. it didn't take all my symptoms away but i also started on remicade which put me in remission for a little while.

Seasons, are you having any symptoms from it the 6mp. I'm still off the Imuran till I get over whatever virus I caught this week - very frustrating!

Not 6mp but it took 6 weeks for the combination of Imuran and Canasa to take me from soft, bloody stools to normal, pre-colitis-like stools.

Seasons- Did the Prednisone help your bleeding? Are you still on it?
Maybe you need to go back up until the 6-MP starts working-
If I remember you started weaning down on the Pred before you even started the 6-MP?
Do Cortenemas help your bleeding??

Also, my dd is only about 83lbs and she is on 50mg

Keep your chin up Seasons! Everyone has told me that it can take 2-3 months before you start seeing some results. My friend who has Crohns has been on 6mp for 14 years and is very happy. He leads a very productive life and is very active with his 3 year old son. It may take some more time.

The prednisone could be making you feel anxious and a little uneasy. How much are you taking now? I have been on 8mg for the last 2 weeks (5 months of pred in total) and I can definitely feel that I am more anxious and nervous. Even watching an episode of Criminal Minds made me paranoid about walking into my own kitchen in the dark last night. I jumped about 10 feet in the air when I saw a dog in the elevator today. It was an adorable little lab. These don't normally affect me but I think it is the pred.

Try to keep your mind off of things. I have started baking up a storm---today it was pumpkin bread with orange and apricots. Kids loved it :)

Yes this is my 2nd round of Prednisone. The first round made the bleeding but it came back after I tapered and was off like a month. This time it didn't seem to get it under control even at 40mg. My old GI waited too long to put me back on. Anyway I am still on it and down to 15mg. It did help me a lot but I still have bleeding, not as much. Most of my stool is formed (no liquidy stuff anymore) but I have pain on and off too. I was told to start the taper even though I still had symptoms expecially because it wasn't effective enough. I have now been told to stay on 15 for at least 10 to 14 days. It's a tough balance. Docs want me off the Prednisone but I have to wait for the 6mp to work. The Prednisone does help but it's not kicking it all together.

The cort enemas seemed to help more the 1st time around. In fact when I was on pred in September the bleeding stopped once I started the cort enemas. This time it isn't as effective. I'm taking those every 3 days now. I was on them everyday for a while.

I am going to talk to GI about the dose. He wanted to give me the smallest effective dose. I also never heard back on my blood results, hoping that means they are fine. We never connected today but I'll call after the weekend. He said he'd test me to see what the therapudic dose would be at some point.

Thanks my friend, I always appreciate your kind words. I'm trying to be patient, I know it will take some time. Somtimes I get nervous though that even this (which is a big deal for me_ won't work. How are you feeling?
