I would have liked to go but just found out about it from your post. I have been taking VSL#3 for 5 months now. Started with the capsules and now up to the sachets (one 450B in the morning and one 900B at night). It helped me get more form in my bowels. I didn't see an improvement until I go up to over 450B per day. My GI (at Reliant Med.) was very supportive.
I tried 6MP and Azathioprine. Both made me sick. Tried a biologic (Cimzia) and got a bad skin reaction.
Rectal therapies (Canasa and Mesalamine enamas), VSl#3, diet changes, supplements, and LDN have been working for me. Also take Asacol, but can't it has done anything, but my GI says it is so I stay with it.

Ah, italo, I wish had posted sooner! I had meant to but just didn't get around to it. Is VSL #3 covered by insurance for you?

Btw, I will plan on posting afterward to let y'all know what I learn :)

EqualsTwo - my insurance covers the VSl#3 DS but it's not much. 20 sachets cost me $100 after the insurance. I buy the regular sachets from Amazon and it's about $83 for 30 sachets. Its pricey stuff, but is seems to help and it's got the science behind it. People with UC have dysbiosis in their colonic bacteria. Don't know if its the cause or a side effect but its something you can effect with probioitcs. Studies have should high doses of probiotics are sometimes as effective as mesalamine.

I only have to pay $55 for 20 sachets of DS after insurance. Still pricey. But I did not see any benefit form OTC products like Align, nor a lot of benefit from OTC VSL (taken 2 capsules daily). I did see a stool-forming benefit from the DS, but over a couple of months it is a little less benefit than it used to be.
