Colazal-3 750mg pills three times a day, is this alot?

JW is this is a lot of medication for someone who is 115lbs.

Colazal-3 of 750mg pills three times a day, is this alot?

 I worry about my liver!

I don't think it really matters what you weigh. These meds are essentially topical treatments for the colon.

I take 3 g of balsalazide per day. My prescription says I should take 4.5 g/day. I take less because I can't ever remember that midday dose and I don't want to take the additional 3 pills in the morning or the evening. Lazy or denial, or both, but so far it doesn't seem to be a problem.

Yep, that is what I take too. It seems like a lot but really it isn't. I think it's just because the pills are so frickin' huge! lol

I just got a script and I co pay $45 dollars and she says the insurance picks up $580 or something fricken crazy like that! Holy crap. I got to my car and cried! I cried because I'm on a drug, I cried because I'm on a drug that costs so much, I cried because I do have insurance to pay for it, I cried because there are others who don't have insurance, it just sucks! We all should have medical coverage, period!!!

Yep, the cost of meds is obscene; most of us agree on that. But brandname Colazal cost just under $800 for a month's supply (280 caps) when it came on the market in early 2000s-- so it's a bit cheaper now in terms of the market rate. 3 X 3 caps daily is the standard dose; you mainly have to keep yourself hydrated & get labs a couple times yearly-- which you need to have done, anyway. It's as safe as any other 5-ASA! / Old Hat (31 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

     Therearemiracles...yep, that was my dose for ten years!!!  The only thing I believe it did was keep the ulcerations confined to the rectum.  However, I still had to have surgery eyes .  My colon was not bad at all, only minor diverticulosis.  Wish I could have donated it to someone tongue .  When the rectum goes, so must the colon.  By the way, my weight varied from 115 - 135 during those years.

What labs need to be done? I'm taking generic Colazal and my doc hasn't recommended any labs. What should I be getting checked?

Colazal makes such a difference for me. Just after two doses yesterday I went to the gym and felt pretty good! Asacol doesn't let me do that. I still saw whole asacol pills in my stool last week. Trust me I examined it and there was mediation inside and only a slight crack in the shell.

I watched a youtube video of how colazal works and it made me feel better knowing most of it doesn't get absorb into the body.

Sticking with it, I promised myself. We'll see how it goes.

Ok so now it's been a few days on colazal at the first day or two it seemed fine now I'm so bloated backed all the way up to my rib cage with gas and diarreah. It takes me all night every hour or two get up and pass it and pass diareeah/stool/mush over and over all night long! I look like I'm 9 months pregnant, it's so uncomfortable it's effecting my mood, I'm so down. It's like nothing is digesting at all and sits there and you can literally here it gurgle all the way through the guts. I don't get it. I was doing 9 pills a day, I only did three yesterday and still bad. I'm not a baby, but I couldn't even imagine doing that every day and night!

I eat and things just start swelling and my gut feels like a bowling ball, hard and just full of liquid and messy poo. I wonder if that much medication really messed up some yeast or something?

I saw a you tube video of colazal and first of all it said it was liquid fill cap, open up past the stomach, I thought it went all the way down to the colon? It's powder anyways?

It's helping with the inflammation I think, but it's reeking havoc on my whole  digestive system. Any thoughts? Thanks
