Imuran 50mg effective to keep remission

Or am I kidding myself? I've been on 50mg for at least six months. Down from 100mg because it lowered my wbc.
Can I stay in remission or do I run the chance of inflammation coming back?

At this dose it put me in remission, knocked back the inflammation and symptoms.

I don't know. Maybe I'm simply jumpy because of my bump in the road this weekend.

Everyone is different on how they will respond these types of meds. Some can get by with 50mg's while others need 100+. I'm at 50mg myself, but that is to keep me from building antibodies against the Remicade. 50mgs does nothing for me really because I can't get into the therapeutic range - I'm always at the lowest end of the scale. I once had my mg's increase to 75mg but I was starting to get a toxic liver.

I am on 25mg of 6mp which is a ridiculously low dose. I am not sure if it's helping me but I do feel like my symptoms are less severe and I've been feeling more stable overall. I am not sure if it's due to the 6mp or something else. My GI says it can help even if the dose is low.

It pops in your head if it's enough or, in some case, too much.

Have you guys have any issues with switching meds? If Imuran is effecting me won't biologics do the same?

I am on 150 mg. daily with 5 years remission. I think it depends on your weight, how severe your UC is, and of course how you react to it, and how much you metabloize. What was your white count when it was down? I think that by keeping it lower gives you an advantage because if you ever get into a bad flare again you are able to go up.

50mg works for me and my gi doc did the tests and it showed that i was in the therapeutic range.
The lowest dose possible has always been my mantra.

how long did it take for imuran to become effective?? I have been on 150mgs for two weeks now, and 50 and 100 the previous two weeks before that...Sitting at 10 mgs of pred, but a little scared to go down, because how are you suppose to know if the imuran is rolling and ready to take over the pred?? I guess I could just try it and find out...Still going about 4 times a day, with a spot of blood here and there, but stool is solid

According to my GI I metabolize the medication quickly and my body stores it longer. My wbc was 2.8. My last test showed it went up to 3.5 and has stayed there. My GI will send me to a hematologist in October if it doesn't rise to 4. He's concerned it may be interacting with my wbc. At least my platelets aren't down this time.

Lowest is my mantra also, but I'm questioning if it is effective any longer. After having offending foods on Friday, (ones I didn't think would bother me) I've been having problems with my bm's. I was starting to get back to normal but not they aren't as consistently formed today. Perhaps I'm not at the therapeutic range, it's not working any longer or inflammation is back.


Eden, in my case, 2 weeks. I started having normal stool, no blood or mucus. But in other cases it could take weeks, depending on the severity of your disease.
