UC doing better, now i need my gallbladder out, anyone else get this done?

so i started a 4 week course of pred  and imuran on june 6, and i am happy to say that i think i am very close to remission, i will finish the pred taper next week, so it should be interesting, *crosses fingers*

but last thursday i had this severe stomach pain and nausea, like nothing i have ever felt, doubled over, throwing up, went to the er, was admitted to the hospital and was there for 5 days, getting all kinds of tests, etc. turns out i have biliary dykinisis , my gallbladder is not functioning properly and they recomend removal.  they gave me the option to wait  until i am done the steroids since they are not good for wound healing, so i go see the surgeon 7/11 to discuss removal of my gb.   in the hospital i was given iv abx for 4 days and i think it wiped out my system, loose bms but no blood thank god.

anyway, how weird that my uc is better and my gb acts up, couuld their be any connection????

I had my gall bladder out and six months later is when I started having UC symptoms and eventually got the official UC dx. It was all down hill from my gall bladder going bad. It's interesting....could be a connection.

Glad to hear the UC is under control, but sorry to hear about the gallbladder having to be removed.

Did you ask your doc if there was some connection in his opinion?

Good luck with the surgery; I wish you a speedy recovery. :-)

There is a connection between UC and GB/Liver disease.
Had mine out at 50,gall bladder looked like a bean bag on the ultrasound.
Worse pain I ever had ,thought it was a heart attack,vomit from the pain.
When something really goes wrong you body will tell you in no uncertain terms.

I really don't like going to doctors,especially ones that use knives, but I marched my butt right into

the surgeon and said get this thing out of me,as fast as possible.
Had it out, full recovery,no change in my UC.

Had my gall bladder out too and I suffered from the pain, tough guy but this put me right on my butt with shakes, throwing up dizzyness and finially I passed out. Woke up on the way to the hospital in an ambulance and found out my gall bladder had called it quits......pop! so I was rushed in to surgery and they chopped it out. about 4-5 months later the UC flare of a lifetime led my doctors to a colonoscopy which revealed the UC. Diagnosed 2011 Jan 15 and things have been a roller coaster since.

On remicade every 2 months and Im scared of the liver repercussions but my UC has decreased 85%

Did those of you that had your gallbladders removed go on post-operative antibiotics? You almost assuredly did get some in the IV during surgery although IV antibiotics don't seem to be connected to flares, as far as I can tell.

There IS a connection. US patients are more prone to gall stones and kidney stones as a result of increased oxalate resorption. I have had my encounter with kidney stones last year. Not too sure when gall bladder issue will show up.
