OT anyone ever use Tramadol for pain?

Doc just prescribed...any ill effects on UC?

I have taken it a few times in the past with no effects on my UC, but I've never taken it long term...I usually take it for a few days at a time until the pain subsides and I can get by with Tylenol.

I can tell you that taking Tramadol typically makes me VERY sleepy and sometimes even seems to knock me out. It does help with pain but I can only take it at night, or days when I don't have to do anything or be anywhere.

It might slow your colon down a bit but it's a safe med for Uc. My doc keeps wanting to prescribe it to me when I have pain but I have to keep reminding him that I'm allergic to it. But before I became allergic to it, I took it on occasion and honestly, it didn't do much for me. I had better luck with Darvocet but unfortunately they took that off the market :(

what was the allergic reaction? I feel like for so long I wasn't on anything and now I'm on everthing. Have had some serious reactions to meds so I'm always afraid to try a new one.....

The last time I took Tramadol (which was probably about 5 years ago), I had the lowest dose possible cut in half. I used it to help with the pain of an ingrown toe nail I had removed (not Uc - tho that is what it was originally prescribed for). I started getting cold sweats, shaking, tunnel vision, weakness and then vomiting. It seems lately that anytime I take a narcotic pain med, it lowers my bp - sometimes to a dangerous level. But that's me lol You may not have any reactions.

the thought of vomiting with this back pain will kill me lol. I had an acute dystonic reaction 2x to compazine and it was awful. Ever since then I always fear taking anything... I read you shouldn't cut them in half because they are time release. hope I can stop being a wimp and just try it

The ones I took weren't time released. They were tablets with a score line and my doc told me to cut it in half.

Sorry you are in such pain.
I have taken tramadol with no ill effects on my UC.
Like Sherry, my pills were scored and not time release.
But after the second dosage, it made me feel so loopy - a little dizzy, slurred speech, and I couldn't concentrate on anything.

So go slow with the dosage, start small and you can always increase it.

I hope you feel better soon.

What about trying voltaren gel, which you could apply topically?

Its my preferred pain relief ...I always take it with Panadol to stop any nausea

I have been on it for the past 3 weeks (not constantly - just as needed) and have found that for the UC pain - that it is a god send.
I am not allowed to take codeine, immodium or buscapan as it causes too much rebound pain, and then you get stuck in the pain cycle.

They also work well for migraines.

Right my mother is of course older and would forget she already took them and was overdosing we put her in an expensive 1400 per day dry out facility - it took 2 weeks before she sound zippy again. Now she sounds like her old self. She is still there.
