Hello again...
2007 3cm proctitis
2009 Flare - 3cm proctitis - remission by prednisone for 9 weeks
2010 Flare - 35cm UC diagnosis - prednisone - failed, 5 asa - failed........FODMAP diet -success!!
I posted about a month ago I start my FT tomorrow at Borody's clinic. Setup for colonoscopy spray day 1, and enema FT day 2-10. But here's the thing.....I've been symptom free for about 2 months now due to two factors.
1) FODMAP diet, I highly recommend trying this restrictive yet amazing eating plan. It's basically gluten, lactose, fructose free eating. I can eat a balaned diet easily on this and it's way less restrictive than SCD. For me, PERSONALLY, within 48 hrs of eating this way I had gone from tons of cramping, blood, frequency, to one stool a day, solid, and brown. I have not deviated from this diet (and interestingly lost a few kgs) in 2 months. The one day I ate something high in FODMAPs, I was suffering with nausea and a loose stool the next day. Enough for me to never cheat again..gluten free bread is all I"ll ever eat now.
2) And this is NOT recommended for anyone to try without discussing with your doctor. I hadn't smoked for 3 yrs, and within one day of smoking again, I stopped bleeding. Haven't see a drop of blood or mucus in 2 months. Did diet first, smoking a week later...........it appears the diet got rid of all symptoms except bleeding/mucus which went with the nicotine.
Now my Gastro's say i should try the patch, or nicotine gum, and that's probably good, I chose to smoke. I also have decided to stop smoking tomorrow when I go in for my first FT, to give my colon every chance to be blood free before the implants. .I will of course do anything recommended by my doctors when I see them tomorrow.
Please research the FODMAP diet, it's amazing NOT having to plan my outings around where the nearest toilet is located. I can go out, travel, spend the night at other people's homes and not worry about living in their loo.
All the best and I"ll post daily if I can as to what is happening with the FT.
FYI I'm on nothing now, did 10 days of CIPRO antibiotics and tomorrow colonoscopy FT> Prior to that took calcium and vit b only along with a 45bill probiotic.
All the best.
