Prednisone moonface is not going away

I was on prednisone for about a year and it has been over a year and a half since I have been completely off of it. Every time before the moonface would go away within a few months but this time I still have some swelling left over though it is going away.. very very slowly. Any way to speed this up? It is driving me crazy! Thank you so much guys!

     That does seem like an extra long time to have moon face.  I was prednisone dependent for two years prior to my surgery.  about a month and a half post op is when I was able to get off the prednisone.  That was in August of 2010.  Looking at pictures taken the following Easter, eight months later, I still can see the moonface, but, a year and a half...no way!

     Andrev....you have taken prednisone for 10 years????  You better have your bones checked.  It gave me full blown osteoporosis!  NOT a good drug to be on long term.

Yes i have osteoporosis, my GI was a total idiot and i was a child so didnt have a clue about pred.

I've gotten rid of moonface pretty fast after getting off Prednisone by doing a few yoga classes, getting a massage, and doing a short (i.e 2 or 3 day) detox/fast. That should help your body eliminate what is left of the Prednisone, as well as any excess water.

What do you mean by detox? what exactly is this?

diuretics make me feel better.. any that are safe to take (pills or natural) with UC for now until my body just eliminates this residual pred/sodium/excess water on its own?

I'm tapering on prednisone now...my swelling is not that bad..my friend, a nurse, gave me some green tea. I think it's helping. I like the massage idea...if only that UC is so stressful that we need to treat ourselves every now and then. Try the green tea and exercise...a steam sounds like an idea I may try too. Good luck

@Coolfella - By "detox" I meant spending a few days drinking a ton of water and eating mostly fruits, vegetables, and easy to digest proteins (like eggs). I usually do a sauna when I'm doing a detox too (like others above have suggested). I find that this usually eliminates excess water from my system. I wouldn't do this, though, until you're feeling like your UC symptoms are all or mostly under control.

I am just off Pred after 6 months of use. I started using Lasix 20mg to begin with for a week but since its so hot outside, I am little wary of it. Hence using 3X a week, not too sure how its going to work out but recording weight and BP, once a week to see the changes.
