So I've been wondering what caused my UC, and I know that there's nobody really knows how we get it except that it can be hereditary.

The thing is, nobody in my family has a history of UC and I was living a completely normal life until one day I found blood in my stools. Before I was diagnosed, I was working two jobs and to avoid myself from fatigue, I drank really really strong coffee in the mornings (strong like a cafe latte with 4 shots of espresso). Every morning, I'd pass a coffee shop on my way to work so I'd stop by and drink that stuff every morning on an empty stomach. Sometimes I'd have the same drink twice a day, but no more than that. I'm wondering if that could have done it for me. Could it have inflamed my colon since I was drinking a strong drink on an empty stomach everyday for about three years before I was diagnosed?

I'm sure it was not the coffee. The entire population of Italy would have UC otherwise....that is some strong coffee there! It's just one of those things we will likely never know. In my case its in my family and I believe quitting smoking was my trigger.

I have thought about 'my' cause over and over and my advice: is just don't think about it hahah.
Coz it's next to impossible to know.

We just have a stuffed up immune system i think. Im almost pretty sure it's a permeability in the gut barrier accompanied by stuffed up bacteria in our intestine (i think due to antibiotic 'ab'use).

The way I look at it is, if we are the only one in the family that has an IBD, that could simply mean that other family members may also have it but theirs has not been triggered...I got my CD before my mom got her UC and that's why I think along those lines...plus they don't know how it's passed on to family members and we could all very well have distant relatives that we never met that had an IBD but didn't share the fact with any family members...it happens.

It's the unknwon parasite that appears in the metametrix stool test. The unknown parasite transfers to host from host and no medication can remove it. The immune system tries to no avail

We're all doomed.

But that's ok guys, in the next life maybe we won't have this disease. In my previous life I was a pirate sailing the atlantic and indian ocean in the 1600's era. Now I was reborn in my current form and I got this stupid disease. I'll see you guys in the next form.

somedude, it is so funny you mentioned your last life and next life. i had this convo with my sister last night about how i will be a cat in my next life because they are awesome and don't have any responsibities... and probably not a lot of IBD.

I don't think drinking coffee caused your UC.  I often wonder how I got it when I was first diagnosed.  No one in my family has it.  My dad use to go to the bathroom a lot with diarrhea. He ate something and it went straight through him.  I don't know if he had blood in his stool.  My dad never went to the doctor about this.  Unfortunately, I will never know if he had it or not because he is no longer with us. I go back and forward with the denial of do I have Ulcerative Proctitis especially when I feel fine.

LOL, yeah, except one of my mom's cats had IBS...but it was an easy cure at the vet...a shot of something and within a week she was fine and has been since (after my mom passed away her abundance of animals were split up between most of the family members and the one that got the IBS cat took her to the vet thankfully). Boy if only we could be cured like that...even people with IBS can't be necessarily cured from it the way cats and dogs can be.

Hi all,

New to the site, and new to UC/CD.  Mine started with a blood test in Feb saying I was anemic.  Had acid reflux so they did a upper gi which showed hernia.

So off to the Gastro dr so does an endoscopy and colonoscopy with biospies in April.  Started rectal bleeding immediately after procedure, and haven't stopped.  At first i figured it was from the biospies, i still was having regular poops, but things just keep getting worst.  Biopsy results said  negligible inflammation "consider early onset IBD or diverticular proctosigmoiditis and cameron ulcers with a hiatal hernia.

Did a sigmoidoscopy in June with biopsy- chronic active colitis.  Did the prometheus which said "Pattern consistent with IBD" but "inconslusive for CD vs. UC"

Did poop test for bacteria etc. all negative.

I've been on Apriso for just over a month and rowasa enema for about two weeks. Over the counter probiotic and a perscription vitamin called integra plus. 

I don't mean to sound gross, but I have dark blood clots with what looks with white/yellow pus.  Not as much bright red blood as I use to.  Still feeling like I have to go 4 or 5 times after I eat, but most of the time its just clots and pus.

My question is how long should it take to stop the bleeding and pus. Is this the same thing you all have/had before remission?

No one in my family has this either so I don't think mine is hereditary. I used to go nuts trying to find what might have caused this. I thought it was dietary or hormonal, stress, maybe a parasite or my immune system. I have considered everything and I haven't figured it out. I doubt it has anything to do with the coffee.
