This is not a question about hair loss. I've been having trouble with trying to color my hair. I usually have my hair done professionally cut,colored ect. The permanent color is not taking the way it should. Could it be the UC meds? I wear my hair pretty short so it should not be a hard fix.

lAnyone, else with this problem?
Need to have it done so often, would have loved to barter with a hairdresser in exchange for Massage! No such luck.

Mine is horrible too. I should color every two weeks but I hate doing it so much that I don't. Can't afford to go have it done. My husband said just let it grow out. I laughed soooooo hard.

So funny my husband said the same thing! He's always saying what's that bald spot in the back of your head? It's grey coming through after 2 weeks. I have a calic! I know it's the meds!

Other than my hair falling out by the handfulls, Im about 40% gray. I go to the salon, and within a few weeks my hair shucks the color? Even my hair dresser doesnt understand. Im positive its the meds-

Wow. I always colored my own hair and then a few months ago, the color wasn't taking. I have my hairdresser do it now.

You can try Clairol touch-up for in-between colors to try to prolong the color a bit. It's for the roots.

what shampoos are you using and how often are you washing your hair?

I use WEN or any shampoos that are Paraben free and not tested on animals.

wen is only a conditioner, it's not a shampoo...so I'd suggest you use a shampoo to rid the hair and scalp of oils the day before or the day you colour your hair.

The colours today aren't as penetrating to the products we use that can build up. Anything "protecting" is a barrier.  Anything smoothing, increasing shine fills in the cuticle or smooths it down.

WEN is both. It's called a cleansing conditioner but it's both. I also use the WEN styling creme. Amazing stuff!

The girls at work starting using this and their hair was amazing. Then, I started. What a difference.

I decided to just get my hair colored from my hairdresser. She is like a chemist. She mixes colors and makes some great colors.

Ok , I use Neutrogena anti-residue formula before coloring. I've been having it done professionally and it's been pretty crappy I must say. Roots are pretty grey. They are not taking the color like they should. Within 2 weeks it needs to be done again. I'm going to Sallys to buy my own color. I can do it more often then. Root touchup might be a good idea! Still want to trade Massage for Hair care. I think it's a good trade!!!!
Also I forgot I was my hair everyday.

Meds can definitely effect the way your hair takes color. They can affect a lot of things with your hair. For example, being put to sleep can cause it to shed much more quickly so you feel like its all coming out even though there isnt an actual bald spot. Blood pressure meds especially effect the way it takes color or perms. Even change in diet can make it limp and lifeless if you loos lots of weight quickly. I did hair for 8 years and have seen lots of things.

Make sure your shampoo and conditioner doesn't contain dimethicone. That's a silicon which doesn't wash out easily. You'd need a cleansing shampoo to get rid of it.

Grey hair is difficult to penetrate normally.

Holding the colour and hair growth in 2 weeks is a different thing.

What type of colour is the hairdresser using? permanent?semi? demi? grey coverage? 10 volume, 20 volume, 30 volume?

Is the colour you're doing it dark, light, etc?

Colouring every 2 weeks can have your hair with colour bands, for it's next to impossible to not do so on such little regrowth.

My hair seems to take color even while on UC meds. Some dyes work better than others I've found. Certain gray hairs are more persistent and difficut to cover. I have a few in the front that are really difficult to dye. My mom who doesn't take UC meds has the same problem.
