Bananagirl, I understand your reasoning with trying out different diets. But I would agree that trying out something you havent tried before deciding on surgery, may be of benefit to you!
Here's another thought. I had great results with the SCD, but I'm starting to realize through my research that other diets are much more effective. SCD is great for limiting specific foods, but still allows foods that many find intolerable.
It's very easy to go 'mad' on the SCD diet because its a low carb diet that adheres to a strict no GRAINS, STARCHES, YEAST, SUGARS & Artificial anything procedure.
However, honey is still allowed to be used, and any bad bacteria in your system completely feeds off this sugar, fermented dairy products & vinegar too!
I would really recommend just cutting out SUGARS, FRUITS, all SIMPLE WHITE FLOUR/GLUTENOUS GRAINS, and maybe restricting dairy! These are the most troublesome foods, and the problem with being a frutarian and having UC is that its all sugar, despite natural sugar, its all inflammation causing and bacteria/pathogen feeding. Try for a few weeks, and keep in mind that you may go through a few days of anger/depression/anxiety without sugar, but that everyones blood sugar adjusts! Sugar is still in vegetables, like carrots, so if you need a pick me up those are always good.
I really hope you can give it a shot! If you have any questions, I know alot of people here who are willing to support you in this!! I'd hate for you to consider surgery without giving a few dietary adjustments a try! :)
