I'm using Apriso orally, which is basically the same thing as your Lialda. Both have the same active ingredient, mesalamine, they're just formulated differently so they dissolve differently.
I'm also using mesalamine enemas twice a week to maintain remission, and I used them nightly to help me achieve remission. Studies show that patients who use mesalamine enemas in addition to oral mesalamine achive remission more quickly than those who only use oral meds. Other studies show that patients who use the enemas twice a week in addition to oral meds stay in remission longer than those who only use oral meds.
I was VERY close to remisison only using oral + rectal mesalamine, when I caught a tummy bug from my son, which threw me back into the flare. I went on pred at that point. However, I kept on using the oral and rectal meds (rectal nightly) throughout the pred taper process, and I was able to come off of it pretty easily. I then stayed the course with the oral and nightly rectal meds until I had been in remission for a while, then slowly tapered the enemas until I was only using two/week.
And I've been in a REALLY solid remission for over three years now. And I'm 10 weeks pregnant now, which can stir things up, and I'm still in remission. I know mesalamine drugs don't work for everyone, but I do think a BIG key to using them successfully is to take them EVERY DAY as prescribed, and to use the mesalamine enemas in conjunction with oral meds.
If the diets are making you anxious and you're not seeing much benefit to following one, then maybe it would be better to just eat what sounds good. Anxiety/stress are know to trigger flares and exacerbate symptoms.
