Maybe I don't know my animals, but since when do chicken and turkey eat grass???? Most chicken I've seen, they eat grain, dirt, worms, insects and random stuff.

i was actually thinking about that too!! i grew up with our next door neighbours haveing chicken in their backyard and i swear i never saw them munching grass LOL; they would look between grass for insect and worms. And they would also eat grains and seeds.

I don't know anymore if the diet is helping. The bleeding today is back to the same way it was. Maybe just a tad less but considering im on Clipper and pred supps i think the diet is not doing much. Tbh no diet has ever done much for me. So much for being a nutritionist/dietician. Aside from going gluten free and low FODMAPS and maybe cutting down on dairy; i have not found any other diet modifications to have any impact. But i thought i'd give this diet a try since im so desperate.
I wish this disease was a person so i could punch the living daylights out of it.

I am sorry you're feeling lousy.

Just curious if you have tried eliminating ALL dairy, rather than just some, to see if it made a difference.

If you have the casein intolerance, then even a little dairy even in the form of kefir could be troublesome.

What do you think?

Also, what about LDN, low dose naltrexone - have you given any thought to trying it?

Don't feel bad Conquer. You are a statistic in the grand scheme of the world.

You have the perfectly heathly dude that wakes up all happy crosses the street and gets run over by a truck. Dies in the hospital.

You woke up and got UC. Somebody has to get UC to fill in the statistic. Sadly, you and I, were chosen for that category.

Give the diet some more time things take time to happen. I have been on it for 9 weeks now and have been pretty strict other than the grass fed animal stuff, I just use what is at the grocery store. I do use ghee or Clarify butter for cooking. I haven't had dairy, wheat or anything else in 9 weeks. I honestly don't miss it at all. The first few weeks were hard, then it gets much easier.

This year I tried to get off of my meds 2 times. Back in Jan- I started flaring after about 4 weeks, then again in May and started flaring in 4-5 weeks. My goal with this diet was to get off the meds completely.... I'm happy to say that I have been off the meds for 7 weeks now with no sign of any blood or mucus. Also my flair was back in control with the meds before I started so that may have helped too.

I have lost around 20lbs went from 163 down to 143 and I'm feeling awesome. I'm 5'8" so I don't want to lose too much more weight but happy with that the extra 20 lbs are gone.

My typical days diet involves:

Breakfast - 3 eggs cooked a variety of ways, watermelon, cantaloupe and pinapple

Lunch Salad of some kind usually with chicken

Dinner- varies quite a bit usually steak, lamb, chicken or seafood of some kind.

Lots of fruit or carrots throughout the day when I'm hungry.

I just gave my sister some books and cook books for Paleo since she also has UC. I'm hoping the diet helps her too.

As for fat loss - of COURSE you will! You're not eating grainy crap anymore (and grains are the number 1 cause of obesity!)

I've been Palaeo 8 years, grain-free for 10. Lost 224lb, and 90" (30x3). I'm now a size 0-2 with 12% body fat.

If anyone else isn't sure about Palaeo, buy the PB and read Mark's blog. Just do it! Today! You can than me later... ;oD

Ouch but i do NOT want to lose weight! Im skinny enough.
Day 6 of the diet i got my isatis cooling pills and i started taking them. I will report on the progress as soon as results are 'clear'.
So right now i will stick to the diet. I got an apptmnt with a chinese medicine doctor this week and im also seeing my naturopath.
I think i may try to reintroduce foods later when im in remission and check for reactions. I just can't get my head around not having grains, even white rice, FOREVER o.o
But if thats what i have to do, well then thats ok i'll find a way to live happily without bread, or potato, or rice, or sugar. *insert scream here*

InSoFla: i stopped having the kefir a week or two before the paleo and right now im sticking to the paleo , so no kefir.

Somedude: indeed, im a just a statistic in the grand scheme of things. Although somehow i prefer the guy who wakes up happily then suddenly gets killed; assuming the death was smooth and swift. Where as with uc you just suffer on and on for years and it continually and slowing sucks life and strength out of you.

Have you noticed any difference since stopping the kefir?

You can have some rice, and some potatoes - from what i have read, but only small amounts, and of course, it would have to be IMO combined properly with other foods to minimize reactions.

I've read you can have about 1 cup of rice a day.

You mean 1 cup if cooked rice per day? (coz if its 1 cup uncooked rice it will be like 3 cups after cooking)

Well if that is the case then i have PRETTY MUCH been eating paleo for a while LOL. Well except for dairy, but previously in april i tried cutting out all dairy for a couple of days (a week maybe) and didn't notice an effect on the bleeding- my primary symptom along with urgency.
Since stopping the kefir i have not noticed an effect on the bleeding, but iam less constipated..probiotics of all types always make me terribly constipated even when i take fibre.

InSo do you find that there is no 'one' definition of the paleo diet? I mean some sources (i think that Lorrain guy) say you can't even have sweet potato, while others go as far as allowing rice and even small amounts of kefir. I do find that universally they all agree that most grains are bad, sugar is bad, and straight dairy is bad.

Yes, 1 cup of rice daily is ok (thumbs up here!).

What about Quinoa, it's a grain that is a protein?

There is one researcher/scientist who has tweeked his Paleo to include the rice because he says the body needs it for glucose production, but he limits it to 1 cup. I'll see if I can find the info on his theory and how he suggests people do the Paleo. Email me, and I'll send you some sources too.

I do find that universally they all agree that most grains are bad, sugar is bad, and straight dairy is bad. - that's corrrect.

conquer, i have read that there really is no such thing as one paleo diet since all paleolithic people ate differently according to region. for example, one article talked about how we've been eating grains for 10,000 years and yet we've only been eating tomatoes, kale, squash, avocados, pecans, blueberries, cashews, potatoes for less than 500 years (and these i think are considered paleo for the most part).
