Canasa Suppositories

I was given two weeks worth of samples of Canasa Suppositories (1000mg) and have just made it through my first week.

I'm ready to give these things up, because I've never ever had accidents, until this past week. I've been passing a little gas during the day and night, and out comes a puff of air with little melted bits of the suppository, letting me know I need to change my underwear. I swear, its like I need one of those foam fingers or something because either the suppositories are not staying up where they are supposed to, or the dosage is a little high? Or? This is just the adverse reaction.

A trace amount of blood is present after bowel movements if I wipe more than enough, and tenderness of the anal canal is still the same.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Yes, that's normal with suppositories...and I hate using them just for that reason.

I have always used them at bedtime, and I sleep on my left side, which maybe helps. Sometimes I wake up a bit greasy, a bit of the melted wax must ooze out, but not often, and I sometimes see white in the first of the morning BM. It takes a few weeks for it to work, But I wish the Doc didn't want me to stay on it so stinking long !!! I get tired of using them!!

Sorry to hear you're having a hard time with the canasa. I have no problem with them..I take them nightly. When I was in my first flare after diagnosis, they helped a lot. I then became lazy and gave them up. Then, flare again. I find that if I push them up really high, they stay. Now, I am also taking anucort and a cort enema with the canasa...that's a lot of stuff going in! I space it a bit...one suppository early evening, wait an hour...then enema right before bed. I have been blood free since doing this! Good luck!!!
