VSL#3 DS

I've been wanting to get VSL#3 DS for a while now. But I have a few questions:

How much $$ without health insurance?
Capsules or sachets?
How long do they last?

I get the capsules. I never could figure out why people would prefer the satchets, having to dissolve them in some drink and then have to taste it. With the capsules you just down it like a pill with no taste effect. I don't get the double strength so my insurance doesn't cover it. That costs me $50 per week at the dose I take, plus shipping which is about $15 per month. A lot of insurances won't even pay for it. Since everyone has different insurance policies, it would be impossible for us to tell you how much it would cost if insurance covered it, unless you happened to find someone with the same insurance you have. I think the VSL does help me. I can take a dose 2 times or even 4 times higher than I take now and may have to consider that at some point. Even though the cost is high it is actually pretty cheap when you consider how many billions of the bacteria you get compared with other things you can buy.

I like the taste as well! I get the sachets and it tastes sweet to me (the clumps at least). I just mix it with 8oz of water and it goes down easy. I pay about $93 without insurance, but my flexible spending account pays for it at least.

How many days they cover will depend on the dose you want to take. Quite a few capsules to equal one DS sachet.

I'm starting the capsules today. I paid about $57 with shipping. I bought it directly from VSL3.com. I didn't care to try insurance because I know they only cover prescriptions or items that require prescriptions. I get denied on things like Alegra D and such so I figured it wasn't worth trying.

At $57 a month I can afford if it helps. We will see starting today. I wanted to start on a weekend just so I know how I handle it while not being at work.

It comes refrigerated.

I ordered my first box of VSL#3 DS about a month ago.  Unlike VSL#3, the DS only comes 20 to a box rather than 30.  I am a grad student, too, and unfortunately my school insurance would not cover it.  The cheapest place I could have it filled was Costco, and it ended up costing ~$110 for the box of 20 sachets.

When I opened it up, I was rather surprised to see that DS looks to be two sachets of regular strength in one envelope.  In doing the math, it seemed like ordering DS from the pharmacy would save pennies per dose relative to ordering single strengh from VSL and taking two sachets at a time.

Once I realized that, I saved the DS and have been using it to make yogurt in my Yogourmet (using the SCD procedure).  My symptoms diminished significantly due to that yogurt alone (it was the only thing I varied), so for that reason I am greatly impressed with the product.
