ever not been able to tolerate 5asa oral but ABLE to mesalamine enema ?

Not sure if GI has his info confused or if he's just willing to have me "try" but he has perscribed mesalamine enemas because I am reflaring and hating the cortenemas. Have BAD side effects worsening my UC from all the 5asa's
Does mesalamine rectal act different ? For those who have issues with oral ??

My daughter is also intolerant/allergic to the oral 5 ASA's and after using the coretenemas I also wanted to see if we could use mesalamine enemas instead...
half an enema later she was on the toilet with terrible cramps and diarrhea...defintley makes things worse for her. Even into the next day :(

Why do you hate cortenemas but are willing to use mesalamine?

after things are in better control you can wean the cortenemas and maybe use just 2 times a week.

IBDIS- I am NOT willing to do mesalamine , because I can't , I think my GI jugdement has lapsed to Rx me them. I get the same terrible side effects as ur daughter I just thought I may have missed some info and they r somehow different

I like cortenemas in that they started to bring me relief BUT at high doses of pred I get bad side effects ie diabetes and joint pain. I called to ask for a lower dose STERIOD enema as I've heard the foam is much lower dose. And somehow ended up with mesalamine enemas .......

Ps does ur daughter do corteenemas for a week or 2every day then simply go down to 2x a week with no withdrawl or taper issues ??

The enemas come in a variety of dosages....1g is the lowest in the Pentasa enemas.

You'll have to see how you do, but if you're intolerant of the oral, I can't see how the rectal would be OK.

Ok I kinda figured. Mistake on GI behalf. I will be going for something else. Not in the mesalamine family

Yeah, I'm the same way. I can't do mesalamine in ANY form. When I first discovered my intolerance, my GI tried to push the Rowasa on me anyway but I had to tell him that I gave it a go after discontuing Asacol and it made me sooooo much worse and completely miserable. Now when I go in there and if an intern is there, he explains that I am one of his rare patients that do not do well on mesalamines (I sometimes feel like a bug under a microscope!)

Yeah totally ! Its like they CANNOT believe I cant do mesalamines .......... why would i be relying on steriods so much if i could do mesalamines. i am heated right now ! just talked to gi nurse/aid/scheduler and she says" the DR wants to know  WHY u cant  take the mesalamine enemas" ! UH THIS IS ALARMING , this should be in my charts this is known that i get WAY worse/sick from them .
