A semi-vegetarian diet is probably the most realistic and balanced diet, or one of them. Of course we have cultures who have eaten almost noting but animal products, for centuries, with few or no health problems. I think humans change over time to adapt to their environments and the diets those environments afford them... just as people develop different skin colors depending on their environments, for example. And studies show that modern vegetarians have different flora in their gut than do meat eaters... adaptive change.
Again, western diets are not only high in meat, but way high in *totally unnatural fats* in that meat, created by a totally insane industrialized food system. If you eat mostly plants, and less quantity but more quality, good, grass fed or wild meats and good fish, you are eating very differently than the average "western" person.
Vegetarians and vegans do get UC, too, remember.
