Hey everyone....I'm wondering if anyone can give me any input on this situation.
Normally my 8 year old son has 1-2 formed bm's per day. Last Tuesday, he had two bm's that were completely loose, couldn't tell if there was blood. I thought he was having a flare so I called his GI and the GI ordered for me to do stool tests to check for C-diff which is the typical drill. The first results of the C-diff came back positive which I think basically means that he has the bacteria in his gut. The lab runs a second test to see if the bacteria is producing toxin. This second test (which took another 24 hours) came back negative. Meanwhile, Wednesday his one bm was somewhat formed, and Thursday and Friday he had one bm per day that was perfectly formed. The GI's nurse called today and told me that she was calling in a perscription for Flagyl that I should have him take. Does anybody know why he would need this when (a) he isn't showing any symptoms of having an infection and (b) the second test came back negative. He isn't fatigued, running a fever or anything. He has been doing 1 1/2 hour long practices with his swim team and he chased his brothers around the park for two hours today!
